Nottingham Forest finally find a shirt sponsor

Nottingham Forest have finally found a shirt sponsor after they partnered with the United Nations’ Refugee Agency UNHCR.

The charity’s logo will be displayed on the front of Forest’s shirts from the beginning of 2023 for the remainder of the season.

Forest have not worn a sponsor logo so far on their Premier League return after failing to agree a deal with any company after owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly held out for £10 million-a-season back in the summer.

The club announced their partnership with UNHCR on Thursday and they will support relief efforts for people fleeing conflict and persecution around the world through donations.

‘I am proud to have partnered with the United Nations’ global work before, with Olympiacos FC back in 2013. We supported UNICEF for four years, choosing to make a significant financial contribution to their charitable work rather than taking income from a sponsor, and giving their cause prominence on the front, and then the back, of the Olympiacos shirt.

‘I hope fans of Nottingham Forest will also be proud that we have chosen to highlight the work of UNHCR for the remainder of the season, in addition to the local causes our Community Trust supports.

‘This comes at a time when the world faces enormous challenges in helping the most vulnerable people in society.’

Forest returned to action following the World Cup break with a 4-1 win away to Championship club Blackburn Rovers in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

They travel to Manchester United in the Premier League on December 27 and will wear the new shirt from the home game against Chelsea on New Year’s Day onwards.

Steve Cooper’s team are currently 18th in the Premier League table, but just a point from safety with 23 rounds of the season remaining.

Sport Business reported that Forest turned down two shirt sponsorship offers in the summer to hold out for a £10m-a-year deal. It followed the expiry of their deal with boiler manufacturer BOXT. (DailyMail)
