Police arrest suspects for alleged killing of 3 in Abuja (Nation)
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested suspects allegedly involved in the killing of three persons in Byazhin.
A statement on Wednesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh said: “The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has restored normalcy in Byazhin following an incident that occurred on May 14, 2024, behind LEA Primary School, where it was reported that a group of scavengers (baban-bola) waylaid some passersby, forcibly collecting their valuables”.
Police explained that a courageous lady resisted the scavengers leading to a violent attack by the hoodlums, resulting in severe machete injuries. Read more

Kano Mosque attack death toll rises to 8 (Channels)
The death toll in the Gezawa Mosque attack in Kano has risen to eight after seven more victims died while receiving treatment at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed this to our reporter, said they died as a result of the injuries they sustained in the incident.

The U.S. removed Cuba from a short list of countries the United States alleges are “not cooperating fully” in its fight against terrorism, a State Department official said on Wednesday.
The official cited the resumption of law enforcement cooperation between Cuba and the U.S. as one the reasons why the previous designation was deemed “no longer appropriate.”
“The department determined that the circumstances for Cuba’s certification as a ‘not fully cooperating country’ have changed from 2022 to 2023,” the official said. Read more

Augusta National warehouse worker admits to theft of Masters merchandise totaling $5.6M (UPI)
Former Augusta National Golf Club worker Richard Brendan Globensky pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count of transporting millions of dollars worth of stolen Masters merchandise and artifacts across state lines.
Globensky, 39, entered his plea in the Eastern Division of the U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois in Chicago, where many of the stolen items were sold by a third party.
The charge carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, but the plea deal reduces the potential sentence to between 2 and 2.5 years. The court also can impose a fine, require restitution and place Globensky on supervised release after serving his pending prison term. Read more
Astros’ Ronel Blanco suspended for foreign substance in glove (ABC)
Houston Astros pitcher Ronel Blanco, who was ejected from Tuesday’s game after umpires found a foreign substance on his glove, has been suspended 10 games by MLB, it was announced Wednesday.
Blanco also was fined an undisclosed amount. Astros general manager Dana Brown said that the right-hander will not appeal, meaning it becomes effective Wednesday night as the Astros continue their series vs. Oakland.
Third-base umpire Laz Diaz ejected Blanco after a check of his glove before he threw a pitch in the fourth inning. His glove was confiscated and was sent to the commissioner’s office. Read more
