Police rescue ‘child kidnapper’ from mob (Nation)
The police on Wednesday rescued a suspected kidnapper from a mob in Agege on the outskirts of Lagos.
The woman was alleged to have abducted a one-year-old child.
The incident was said to have occurred in the morning at 1, Gbayilola Street, Agege.
It was gathered that the woman identified as Timede Peace David, had gone to the compound to out the child.
While approaching the gate, a neighbour saw her and queried her movement.
She was asked to identify herself because her face was strange but the suspect was unable to say anything tangible.
The said neighbour, it was learnt, raised the alarm, which attracted other occupants, passers-by and they descended on her. Read more
4 policemen detained as FSARS ‘kill’ teenager (Nation)
Operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Ikeja on Wednesday shot a teenager dead in Lagos.
The incident occurred at Ilepo, Satellite Town, while the operatives were said to be chasing criminals.
It was gathered that they fired sporadic shots, one of which hit the teenager, said to be on errand.
The news of the teenager’s death sparked protests on the social media, fuelling the clamour for the scrapping of the FSARS.
Reacting to the incident, police spokesman Chike Oti, a Chief Superintendent (CSP) said four of the policemen had been detained for questioning. Read more
Police arrest 19 suspected cultists in Lagos (Punch)
The police on Wednesday said they had arrested 19 suspected cultists in Imeke, a suburb of Badagry, Lagos State.
SP Samson Akhiromen, the Divisional Police Officer in Badagry, disclosed this when the new District Correspondent of News Agency of Nigeria for the area, Mr Raji Rasak, visited the divisional office.
Akhiromen said that the suspects were arrested at about 11 p.m. on July 27 when the suspects were having a meeting to carry out their nefarious activities. According to him, a reliable source from the city gave useful information that led to the arrest of 18 males and one female suspects. Read more
Dad, mum, son held for ‘burglary, theft’ (Nation)
The police have arrested a couple, Uroye and Margaret Teddy, their teenage son, Tega, and his lover, Karima Edom, for alleged burglary and theft.
The suspects were said to have broken into 8, Ade Onitiri, Harmony Estate in Langbasa Lagos home of Mrs. Folasade Odunuga.
According to the police, Mrs. Odunuga was on a three-month vacation, which started on May 27 when the incident occurred.
It was gathered that the suspects looted her car and other household items after entering her house from the ceiling.
Edom, who is said to be victim’s neighbour, allegedly informed Tega that Mrs Odunuga was away from home, laying grounds for the burglary. Read more
Lady allegedly pushes boyfriend out of the window during fight over phone (Vanguard)
The deceased, Wilson Henry, a Civil Engineering graduate from University of Benin, had his neck and complete spinal cord broken, as he landed on the fence of the building before resting on the septic tank.
He died three days later at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja.
Vanguard gathered that the suspect, Adaugona Esu, a hair stylist was living in a self-contained room on Origa street with her boyfriend, one Eto, until he travelled outside the country in July 2017. Read more
Husband ‘slaps wife to death’ (Nation)
A man, Premie Imafidon, was on Tuesday brought before an Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly slapping his wife, Hope, to death.
Imafidon, 47, was arraigned by the police on a temporary one-count charge of murder before Mrs A.O. Ajibade.
Prosecuting Sergeant Maria Dauda alleged that the defendant committed the offence at about 7pm on June 15, at 25, Apata Street, Agege, Lagos.
Dauda said Imafidon slapped Hope, 42, after a heated argument, and she collapsed. According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 224 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Imafidon pleaded not guilty. Read more
Manager accused of stealing employer’s N1m (Nation)
A 52-year-old Sales Manager, Ayoola Okunola, was on Monday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing his employer’s N1.1 million, four months after employment.
Okunola, a resident of Ikorodu, Lagos, is being tried for alleged stealing.
The accused committed the offence on May 28 at Fatai Atere Way, Matori, Mushin, Lagos, prosecutor Emmanuel Ajayi told the court.
He alleged the accused stole N1.1million belonging to New Home Distribution African Ltd.
Ajayi alleged the accused obtained goods to deliver to the company’s customers, but diverted them to other customers. Read more
Thief attacks man in front of bank (NewTelegraph)
Policemen attached to Area G, Ogba, Lagos have arrested three men for snatching a phone from a man in front of a bank, located on ACME Road.
According to witnesses, the man was heading to the church on Sunday morning with his family when he decided to make a quick withdrawal from the nearest Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) point, which was on the premises of the bank. He had already made his withdrawal and was checking his mobile phone in front of the bank, when one of the thieves, riding a motorcycle, drew closer to him and snatched the phone. Read more
30-yr-old man rapes, sodomises 10-yr-old girl (Vanguard)
The Police, on Monday, arraigned a 30-year-old man, Goddy Inyama, who allegedly defiled a 10-year-old girl by raping her through the anus and vagina, before an Ajegunle Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.
The defendant, who pleaded not guilty to the offence, is facing a three-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse, unlawful touching of breast and penetrating the anus.
Iyama, who resides on Sogbesan Street, Ajegunle, in Apapa area of Lagos was docked before Magistrate O. M. Ajayi.
The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembi, told the court that the defendant unlawfully and sexually touched a 10-year-old girl in her vagina. Read more
Rival ‘slashes village head’s stomach with motor saw’ (Nation)
A machine operator, Samson Tueei, was on Monday arraigned at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court for allegedly slashing the stomach of a Baale with a motor saw. Tueei, 60, of Sore Community in Takwa Bay, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of assault and infliction of bodily harm.
Prosecuting Sergeant Godspower Ehizoba alleged that the defendant committed the offence at about 7:45pm on July 19 at Sore Community.
He said the incident occurred during a dispute between Tueei and Gani Thomas, over who should be Baale.
The stool was given to Thomas. “The defendant assaulted the Baale by cutting his stomach with a motor saw,” the prosecutor said. Read more
Family raises the alarm over son’s abduction by SARS officers (Punch)
The family of Taofik Badmos have raised the alarm over the alleged abduction of their son by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the Lagos State Police Command.
It was gathered that the 25-year-old was a 200-level part-time student at Yaba College of Technology and also a printer.
Punch Metro learnt that Taofik had left the house on Atiko Street, Lagos Island, Lagos, where he lives with his parents, in the evening on July 23, 2018, but failed to return.

Gunmen kill moneychanger after snatching $80,000 from him (Nation)
The police are investigating the killing of a Bureau De Change (BDC) operator, Victor Thorpe, in Lagos by assailants who snatched his company’s $80,000 (N28.8m).
The incident occurred at 11am on Friday when the BDC operator went to his company’s vault, said to be at LEGICO building, on Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, to pick up the money.
It was gathered that the assailants, who were on a motorcycle, double-crossed the commercial bus he boarded, went inside, snatched the money and shot him in the chest at close range. Read more
Family of murdered Lagos guard demands corpse from police (Punch)
The family members of late Jesse Onaniba, who was killed during an attack on Okoya Street, Ajegunle, Lagos State, are demanding the release of the remains of their son for burial.
Punch Metro had reported that Onaniba was killed on Tuesday, July 24, 2018, during an attack on the community.
Punch Metro learnt that Onaniba was a member of the vigilance group contracted by residents of Okoya Street to secure them against incessant attacks by armed robbers.
Our correspondent also learnt that the group had engaged the robbers and managed to prevent the attackers from robbing residents.
The residents alleged that the robberies were organised by Cemetery Boys, who rob the residents in the guise of supremacy battle against youths of the area. Read more
Herbalist abducts 17-year-old seeking protection against enemy (Punch)
The police in Lagos have arrested a herbalist, James Johnson, for the alleged abduction of a 17-year-old girl in the Ajah area of Lagos State under false pretences of fortifying her against enemies.
Johnson, 22, was apprehended along with his accomplice, 28-year-old Emmanuel Emmana, at a hotel they reportedly used as their hideout in the neighborhood. Saturday PUNCH learnt that Johnson had approached the girl, Bilkis, at her mother’s shop in Akinyemi Market, Ajah, while he was hawking herbs.
He was said to have told Bilkis that he had a vision that some enemies were going after her and that she needed prayers to fortify herself against any spiritual attacks. Read more
