5 Okada riders accused of beating policemen land in court (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned Damzuru Musa, Khalid Yaya, Shaaban Haruna, Bashiru Yinusa, and Tijani Musa before Magistrate O.Y. Adefope at the Yaba Chief Magistrate Court. The defendants stand accused of assaulting police officers, causing bodily injury, rioting, and breach of the peace.

The defendants face four charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, assault on police officers causing serious bodily injury, and rioting.

Prosecutor Haruna Magaji informed the court that the alleged offences occurred on March 25, 2024, at approximately 7:00 am. Read more

Again, hoodlums invade Lagos community, stab 2 (Punch)

There was apprehension on Monday after some hoodlums attacked some residents of Coker Lane in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the hoodlums numbering about 10 invaded an apartment in the area, inflicting injuries on the occupants.

Our correspondent who paid a visit to the area on Tuesday gathered that trouble started when one of the louts had an argument with an occupant of the house and stabbed him with a broken bottle in the process. Read more

Residents lament as hoodlums terrorise Lagos community, stab man (Punch)

Residents of Fadeyi in the Somolu area of Lagos State have raised the alarm over the increasing activities of hoodlums in the community.

The residents who spoke to PUNCH Metro at the weekend lamented that the boys between the ages of 16 and 20 years were fond of terrorising them as well as some business owners in the area.

The gang was also said to have repeatedly threatened the police by preventing them from taking action.

The latest of their escapades was an attack on a staff member of a water company, Segun Ojeleye, in the Alhaji Calfo area of the community. Read more

Police arrest 3 for macheting Lagos DPO (Punch)

Three suspected traffic robbers have been arrested for macheting the Alausa Division District Police Officer, Abaniwonda Tokunbo, at the Otedola Bridge in the Alausa Ikeja area of Lagos State.

The suspects include Tochuckwu Nonso, aged 29, popularly known as Thug Life, and the gang leader, Chidera Christopher, aged 25, and Richard Etim, aged 25.

2 men jailed for illegal importation of 1,570 guns (Punch)

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Wednesday, convicted and sentenced two businessmen Ifeuwa Christ and Ayogu James, to two years imprisonment, for unlawful importation of 1,570 pump action rifles, into the country.

Justice Ambrose Lewis-Alagoa who handed down the sentence, also ordered the convicts to pay N1m on each of the eight counts, as a fine in lieu of the jail term.

The judge delivered the judgment, following the plea bargain agreement reached between the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation and counsel for the two convicts, Yakubu Galadima. Read more

How attempt by 85-yr-old traditional ruler to kill son for rituals failed (Vanguard)

The police in Lagos, recently, recorded a breakthrough by arresting 10 members of suspected criminals who specialize in exhuming body parts from cemeteries and killing human beings for rituals.

Among the arrested suspects was an 85-year-old traditional ruler in Benin Republic, Yusuf Lawal Muse, the son of a pastor said to be the kingpin, Ademola Akinlosota, 33, an Ifa priest, Sunday Badonu, aka Osekure, 25, his father, Vijamiya Badonu, an idol priest and Osetura’s father, Dada Trival, 33, Bale of Akalekumo in Badagry, Hunsu Segun,35, Balogun in Ogboni fraternity, Badagry, Amodu Wahab, aka Alhaji Bororo, 58, specialists in collecting human parts both fresh and dry, Kamolu Aderibigbe, 44, a trade-medical doctor in Ijedfodo and Muyibat Adesina, 49, the herbalist who uses human parts to prepare concoctions for people.

Crime Guard learned that the traditional ruler, Yusuf Lawal Muse is from Diasou in Benin Republic and is married to six women with 21 children. He reportedly relocated to Ibatefin-Ikpoka in Ogun state and later to Adodo in the same Ogun state where he lived with his wives and children until his arrest. Read more

Court issues bench warrant for arrest of suspected land grabbers (Nation)

Justice Adenike Coker of an Ikeja High Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of an alleged land grabber, Moroof Owonla, a.k.a. Kaka Moroof, and others over their continued absence in court in an on-going alleged felony trial filed against them.

The matter has suffered several adjournments due to the absence of the defendants in court.

Director of Directorate of Public Prosecution, (DPP), Dr. Babajide Martins, had filed an eight-count charge against Moroof Owonla, Olu-Aminu Yemisi Abdulaziz and Ganiyu Aminu over alleged conspiracy to commit a felony. Read more

Appeal court reserves judgment in Baba Ijesha’s conviction (Nation)

The Court of Appeal in Lagos State has reserved judgment in the appeal filed by Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, alias Baba Ijesha, challenging his conviction by an Ikeja High Court over the sexual assault of a minor.

The three-man panel of the appellate court, led by Justice Folasade Ojo, reserved the appeal for judgment yesterday after listening to arguments of the appellant and the respondent.

Other members of the panel are Justice Abdullahi Bayero and Justice Paul Bassi. Read more
