#Okadaban: Commuters groan as Lagos burns

Lagosians are groaning.

Commuters woke up to a nightmare on the first Monday since the Lagos state government restricted okada and keke rooutes in what many are referring to as a ban on bi-and tricycles in the state.

Bus stops were crowded as commuters who would have boarded kekes and okadas had to wait aand compete for the limited number of danfos and BRT buses. Many resorted to trekking.

Social media was awash with comments that ranged from the ridiculous to the sublime with commenters taking swipes at the Lagos statee government.

Skirmishes broke out in parts of Lagos in Obalande as well as the Ijora axis where unverified video evidence showed tyres burning with gunshots ringing out. Buses and commuters where seen fleeing the scenes.

Formal tricycle operators Oride, Gokada and Max are bemoaning the loss of their investments. A tweet put their combined losses at $213.7m.

What happens next? Will the Lagos state government have a change of heart and reverse itself as it did six years ago or will the ban remain and if it does what will Lagosians do in the days ahead and when the rains come?
