One dead, two injured as tanker rams into car, bus on Lagos bridge (Guardian)

AN accident on the Otedola bridge, Lagos State, yesterday claimed the life of an unidentified woman. A tanker loaded with petrol on Thursday rammed into a bus and a car on the Otedola Bridge.

The Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that two persons were severely injured in the accident, which occurred at about 8:30a.m. Oke-Osanyintolu said that the agency’s officials immediately raced to the scene to rescue the victims and remove the vehicles from the road to ease traffic.

According to him, a female adult lost her life to the accident, while a male adult and a child got injured. He said that the body of the deceased had been taken to a mortuary, while the injured were being treated. Read more

Pen-Cinema Bridge Will Soon Be Completed- Hamzat (Independent)

The Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, has assured residents that the ongoing construction of the Pen-Cinema Bridge in Agege would soon be completed.

Hamzat gave the assurance through his Instagram page on Thursday.

The deputy governor said that he paid an unscheduled visit/inspection to the ongoing construction of the Pen-Cinema Bridge.

According to Hamzat, the engineers still have a long way to go.

He, however, expressed optimism about work done and assured that the bridge would be completed soon. Read more

COVID-19 test for 16,000 in Lagos gulps N800m (Nation)

The Lagos State Government on Thursday said it has spent about N800million in carrying out 16,000 covid-19 test in Lagos so far.

Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi disclosed this while answering reporters question on COVID-19 situation report at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Center, Secretariate, Alausa, Ikeja.

He said each COVID-19 test cost between N40,000-N50,000 and 16,000 tests have been carried out so far fully paid for by the government.

“We have so far performed 16,000 COVID-19 tests in Lagos, which is much higher than anywhere else in Nigeria. Read more

4 deaths raise Lagos Covid-19 death toll to 42 (DailyTrust)

Lagos state has recorded four new COVID-19 deaths, raising the number of COVID-19 related death in Lagos to 42. The Commissioner for health, Professor Akin Abayomi who disclosed this on his official twitter handle @ProfAkinAbayomi did not provide detail about the deceased.

He also tweeted that 199 new cases of COVID-19 infection was confirmed on May 20, bringing to 2,970 the total confirmed cases in Lagos state. With the 17 patients discharged on May 20, the number of patients successfully managed and discharged in the State has risen to 649 while the number of active cases stands at 2,261. Read more

Police arraign ‘fake’ army officer over alleged N2.3m job scam (Guardian)

The police on Thursday arraigned a 36-year-old man, Suleiman Dukku in a Wuse Zone Six Chief Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, for allegedly defrauding job seekers of N2.3 million.

Dukku, who resides at Sanka, Kuje, Abuja is charged with two counts of impersonation and cheating.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Sanda Jibril told the court that the complainant, Gambo Hamza reported the matter at the Dawaki Divisional Police Headquarters, FCT Command on Feb. 24. Read more

The Federal Government has declared Monday and Tuesday – May 25 and 26, 2020 – as public holidays to mark Eid-el-Fitri celebration.

The Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government.

Father and son surrender to police after killing neighbour for allegedly sleeping with wife (Tribune)

A father and his son have surrendered themselves to the police in Nasarawa State after killing their neighbour.

Mr Henry Oboteh, a trado-medical doctor, who was said to be in his mid-50s, was killed by one Mr Collins, his son and his security guard on Wednesday, May 20, at Angwan Tiv in Masaka, for allegedly sleeping with his wife.

The Oboteh family want to see that justice is done.

The daughter of the victim, Mrs Priscilla Solomon, who spoke to Tribune Online at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) unit of the Nasarawa State police command said that the suspects confessed to killing her father after discovering that he was having an affair with the wife. Read more

A statement on the ICC’s website on Tuesday states that the age-old trick of using saliva to shine a cricket ball could be a thing of the past when the sport resumed due to the recommendation by ICC’s executive committee.

South Korea’s K League said on Wednesday its disciplinary committee decided to impose a 100 million won ($113,173) fine on FC Seoul for using sex dolls instead of mannequins to fill empty seats in their stadium.

The club placed dolls in seats during a K League match on Sunday to make up for the absence of fans due to COVID-19 restrictions.
