One person was killed and several others sustained injuries when members of the Aiye and Eiye confraternities clashed on the Sagamu Road in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses told PUNCH Metro that the clash, which occurred around 7pm, was a territorial battle.

They stated that many innocent persons, who were returning from work, as well as passers-by, were injured as they tried to flee the scene of the clash. Read more

Sanwo-Olu threatens to ban NURTW in Lagos (Guardian)

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has threatened to proscribe the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) if the members do not conduct themselves well. The governor said this yesterday on a television programme, where he maintained that his administration was committed to delivering his Greater Lagos vision.

Sanwo-olu said, “The NURTW is a national body of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC). It is a registered trade union.“Like other unions, they are under the supervision of the state government. We regulate and supervise them. They would be proscribed if they don’t conduct themselves well.”

He said his administration had recorded a lot of achievements in the last 196 days in the area of security, adding that he would stay up late monitoring the security situation in the state. Read more

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has promised to strengthen security across the state to justify donations being made to the Lagos State Security Trust Funds (LSSTF) by public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations.

Tragedy struck in the Rivers State University on Tuesday as a 500-level Law student, Matilda Mark, was stabbed to death by assailants in her private apartment outside the institution’s campus.

The 24-year-old victim was found dead in a pool of her own blood after she was attacked by her assailants.

According to a source, who spoke to PUNCH Metro, the victim was also a ballet dancer, who performed at the Salvation Ministry’s headquarters in Port Harcourt during the 57th birthday celebration of the church’s founder. Read more

Chile missing C-130 plane: Floating debris found (BBC)

Chilean officials say they have located debris believed to be from an air force plane that went missing on Monday.

They said the wreckage was found floating 30km (19 miles) from where the C-130 Hercules cargo plane with 38 people on board last made contact.

The wreckage was spotted in a body of water known as the Drake Passage.

That’s what a man in Charles City, Iowa yelled after his car plunged into an icy river.

Gael Salcedo, 18, was on his way to North Iowa Area Community College when his Jeep hit a patch of ice on the road, according to CNN affiliate KIMT. Salcedo lost control of his car — he turned to the right and from there, everything went blurry, he said. His car, though, plummeted into the Winnebago River.

“I didn’t know where I was going and then I just didn’t know what to do. I was just thinking in my head ‘I think I’m going to die,'” he told KIMT. Read more
