My teacher forced me to perform oral sex for marks – Lagos schoolgirl (Punch)
An 18-year-old female pupil, Mary (not real name), of Fazir-I-Omar Senior High School in Iwaya area of Yaba, Lagos State, has narrated how one of her male teachers allegedly made her to perform oral sex on him in order to pass his subject.
Mary, who is from Abia State and resides in Makoko, said she had barely spent a month at the school when the teacher allegedly asked her to give him oral sex in exchange for a good grade.
The victim, a Senior Secondary School II student, narrated to The Punch how, on two different occasions, she succumbed to pressure and how the teacher allegedly further demanded for sex if she wanted to pass the subject he teaches. Read more
Police arrest soldier for allegedly stealing phones (Nation)
The police in Lagos have arrested a soldier, Lance Corporal Shedrack Christopher, for allegedly stealing two mobile phones at a hotel in Ijanikin.
Christopher was arrested on March 19, around 6am at Express View Hotel following complaints from the management of the facility on the alleged theft.
Parading the suspect Wednesday, Police Commissioner Zubairu Muazu said he stole two mobile phones worth N86,000 from the bar and hotel, adding that the phones, an axe, a cutlass and knife were recovered from the suspect. Read more
Grandfather, daughter arrested over boy’s death in Lagos (Punch)
The police in Lagos State have arrested a grandfather and his daughter over the death of a 10-year-old boy in Ikorodu area of the state.
A source at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the grandfather and his daughter, mother of the deceased, were arrested for allegedly disposing of the child’s corpse without the knowledge of the father.
NAN gathered that the deceased, Abdullah Adisa, 10, the only child in the marriage, fell ill and later died while in the custody of the mother. Read more
Four held for police officer’s death (Nation)
Four persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of the Administrative Officer (AO) of Ijanikin Police Division, Akinde Abiodun, an Assistant Superintendent (ASP), on March 19.
They are Akinwale Bamido, 23, Olanrewaju Bamido, 22, John Matthew, 21, and Adeniyi Moses, 23. The suspects are said to be members of a gang that killed Abiodun during a robbery in Ijanikin on the outskirts of Lagos on March 19.
Parading the suspects at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja GRA, Police Commissioner Zubairu Muazu said one locally made gun, seven live cartridges, weed suspected to be Indian hemp and charms were recovered from their hideout. Read more
Alleged serial killer, others arrested in Lagos (Punch)
Policemen of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested an alleged serial killer, Ibrahim Abdullahi a.k.a. Tiny and four others at his Ijegun-Egba area hideout.
The Lagos Police PRO, DSP Bala Elkana, in a statement said the suspect whose name sends shivers down the spine of residents of Satellite-Town, Lagos, was arrested during an operation led by the Divisional Police Officer of Satellite-Town Division, CSP Chike Oti, to rid the community of the violent activities of criminals.
It would be recalled that the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu, had earlier in the week changed Area Commanders, DPOs and Tactical Unit Commanders in the state, to clamp down on members of unlawful societies and raid identified criminal enclaves. Read more
Jumia employees docked over alleged theft (Nation)
Two employees of Jumia Services Ltd., Olalekan Adekoya and Ilozionwu Chukwunonso, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of the online shop’s five phones valued at N278, 000.
Adekoya resides at No. 20, Pipeline Road, Idimu, while Chukwunonso lives at No. 21, Musa Ajakaye St., Alagbado, Lagos.
They are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, but they pleaded not guilty. Read more
Fake estate agents defraud newly-wed couple, pastor of N3.9m (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested five fake estate agents for allegedly defrauding a newly-wed couple of the sum of N900,000, being rent for a three-bedroom flat in the Ikeja area of the state.
The suspects are Elabor Aruoya, who allegedly posed as the landlord; Adeshina Abegunde, who provided the accounts used for perpetrating the fraud; Olamide Ojajinu, who took the victims to the house; Segun Adewale and Matthew Adeniyi.
The Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Mu’azu, while parading the suspects during a press briefing on Wednesday, said the command received a distress call from the newly-wed couple that the suspects, who posed as agents, collected N900,000, from them as rent for a three-bedroom flat, and were unreachable afterwards, adding that investigation led to the arrest of the suspects. Baker in court for unlawful possession of Marijuana (Nation)
A baker, Salami Ahmed, 31, on Wednesday appeared in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly being in possession of Marijuana.
The police charged Ahmed, who resides in No. 6, Balogun St., Orile-Agege, Lagos, with two counts of being in possession of marijuana and breach of peace.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Read more
Court convicts visa applicant for forging documents (Punch)
A visa applicant, Adedeji Ayobami, has been found guilty by the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja, for submitting fake documents to secure a visa to the United States of America.
Ayobami, who was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, faced 11 counts bordering on procuring fake documents to mislead a constituted authority.
A statement by the ICPC spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, said the offences were contrary to Section 13 and punishable under Section 68 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. Read more
Prophetess duped me of N134m, lawyer tells court (Nation)
A lawyer, Uloma Ulo, on Tuesday told an Ikeja Special Offences Court that a self-styled prophetess, Linda Mhabi-Praise, duped her of N134 million in 2017.
Mhabi-Praise, Prophetess of Temple of Praise Church, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Surulere Lagos, and her company Mutano Energy Ltd, are standing trial on an eight-count charge of stealing, obtaining money by false pretence and issuance of dud cheques.
They were arraigned before Justice Sherifat Solebo on March 6 by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Read more
