Otedola donates N1b to Lagos State

Femi Otedola, Chairman of Geregu Power PLC, handed a check of N1 billion naira to Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, at a ceremony held at the Lagos House, Marina.

The donation, the largest individual contribution to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), aims to fortify the state’s security architecture.

Accompanied by LSSTF Chairman, Mr. Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti, Executive Secretary/CEO Dr. Abdurrazak Balogun, and other officials, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed gratitude for the substantial contribution. He emphasized the positive impact it would have on fostering a secure environment for both residents and businesses, according to a statement by Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to the governor.

Governor Sanwo-Olu lauded Otedola’s commitment to the safety of Lagos, stating, “The N1 billion donation is not the limit. There are no limits; let others come and do more.” He urged fellow Lagosians and corporate entities to follow Otedola’s example, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in making Lagos a safer place.

In a symbolic representation, Olawunmi Otedola, daughter of Femi Otedola, highlighted her father’s continued interest in the LSSTF, commending the Fund’s transparency and effective resource utilization. She acknowledged the significant role played by security personnel, especially during festive periods, and encouraged residents to collaborate with the government for a more secure Lagos.

Olawunmi Otedola stated, “My father believes that when well-meaning Lagos residents contribute to this type of effort, Lagos will be safer, and we all will be more prosperous.” She urged all residents, especially corporate entities and high net worth individuals, to reflect on the importance of supporting the Fund and make contributions, emphasizing that every donation, regardless of size, has the power to create positive change.

Governor Sanwo-Olu revealed that the state government is committed to supporting the LSSTF with 300 vehicles in the first quarter of the year, further demonstrating the dedication to enhancing security measures.

The generous donation from Femi Otedola marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to bolster Lagos State’s security infrastructure, setting a precedent for others to contribute towards ensuring the safety and prosperity of the commercial hub of Nigeria.
