Over 5,000 COVID-19 cases now recorded for Nigeria

As at Thursday night, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nigeria has exceeded a grim 5,000 with an additional 193 new cases added to the country’s tally.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) made this known via Twitter saying the total number of infections in Nigeria is now 5,162.

According to the NCDC three new patients have been confirmed dead to the virus in the country, bringing the total number of deaths to 167, while 1,180 of the total confirmed cases across 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory have been discharged.

The 193 new cases emanated from 14 states and FCT with the breakdown as follows: Lagos (58), Kano (46), Jigawa (35), Yobe (12), FCT (9) and Ogun (7). The others are Plateau (5), Gombe (5), Imo (4), Edo (3), Kwara (3), Borno (3), Bauchi (1), Nasarawa (1) and Ondo (1)

The global death toll has passed 300,000 as at Thursday, according to a tally by the Johns Hopkins University which has been keeping records since the outbreak of COVID-19.

The university said more than 4.4 million cases have also been recorded.
