Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting at Ikeja, on Tuesday, sentenced a pastor, Erinmole Adetokunbo, and his accomplice, Adedoyin Oyekanmi, to death for killing a seven-year-old boy in the Ikorodu area of the state.

Justice Taiwo gave the verdict after the defendants changed their pleas from not guilty to guilty.

The men were arraigned on October 30, 2017, before the Lagos State High Court on two counts bordering on conspiracy and murder.

According to the charge sheet, Oyekanmi and Adetokunbo, on June 7, 2017, on Oke Oniburokun Street, Odokekere, Ikorodu, conspired to murder a seven-year-old boy, Kazeem Rafiu. Read more

Lagos lottery manager killed during argument over debt (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday said it arrested a 35-year-old man, Kamalideen Raji, over the murder of a lottery manager in the Badagry area of the state.

Raji was said to have, on August 2, 2022, stabbed the manager twice in the neck over a disagreement about an unpaid debt.

The victim was rushed to the Badagry General Hospital, where he gave up the ghost.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the suspect was arrested by the Area K Police Command. Read more

Lagos-Ibadan traffic: Miscreants rob motorists, police deny abduction (Punch)

Suspected hoodlums, on Tuesday, reportedly attacked some motorists at the Londbridge and Kara ends of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the miscreants, who struck around 6am, robbed people going to work, as the police described reports of abduction on the road as fake news.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the gang exploited the gridlock caused by the ongoing reconstruction of the expressway.

A banker, Ibrahim Odebunmi, said he had to abandon his car to join others fleeing the scene. Read more

Again, gunmen rob motorists on Lagos-Ibadan expressway (Punch)

There was a robbery incident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The robbery occurred between 5.00 am and 6:15am on the long bridge, near Warewa bus stop.

A passenger of one of the buses plying the road at the time, named Abayomi, told our correspondent that many motorists abandoned their vehicles.

“There was a robbery and because of the robbery, people out of fear began to run. Some people hit the cars of others. Someone is lying on the ground lifeless, and we heard that someone was killed,” he said. Read more

Fraudster swindles Lagosians with fake money inside boot (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected fraudster, Emmanuel Rolland, for defrauding unsuspecting members of the public of their valuables around Ipakodo, in the Ikorodu area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Monday, said Rolland was arrested after his victim raised the alarm.

He said the suspect confessed to committing the crime after he was arrested.

Hundeyin said, “Officers of the Ipakodo division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one Emmanuel Rolland, 34, for duping unsuspecting passengers.

Police slam Kizz Daniel for seizing laundry bus (Punch)

An artiste, Daniel Anidugbe, aka Kizz Daniel, has seized the delivery bus of a laundry service company for allegedly damaging his clothes while rendering services to him in Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Kizz Daniel, who recently took delivery of his clothes from the company, observed that some of his clothes had been damaged.

Angered by the discovery, the artiste reportedly put a call through to the management of the laundry company and asked them to send a representative to pick up some of his dirty clothes.

After receiving the call, our correspondent gathered that the company’s management detailed a driver to take a delivery bus to the singer’s residence to pick up the dirty clothes. Read more

Soldiers torture Lagos policeman to death, brutalise 4 (Punch)

An Inspector serving with the Lagos State Police Command, Orukpe Monday, has died from the torture he allegedly received from soldiers who attacked him and his colleagues in the Trade Fair area of Lagos State.

Another Inspector, Igbafe Ojo, who was reportedly tortured by the same soldiers, has been hospitalised at the military hospital in the Ojo Military Cantonment, where doctors were said to be battling to save his life.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the soldiers were on their way to attend a training programme at the Ojo Military Cantonment on Wednesday when the bus conveying them to the destination encountered mild traffic around the Trade Fair area of the Lagos Badagry Expressway.

Speaking with our correspondent, a source said some of the soldiers, upon realising that the traffic was caused by policemen trying to pave the way for a truck driver to link the expressway, came down from the vehicle to challenge the policemen.

Police kill ex-convict, accomplice caught robbing on CCTV (Punch)

Men of the Lagos State Police Command have gunned down two robbery suspects allegedly terrorising residents of Apapa, Ajegunle, and their environs.

Our correspondent gathered that on August 4, the hoodlums invaded a community and dispossessed some residents.

A closed circuit television clip of the operation posted on Twitter by the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, showed the gang ransacking a shop while they held one person at gunpoint.

Hundeyin, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said the police trailed the hoodlums to their hideout at Ajegunle, where a gun battle ensued. Read more

Lagos corporal beats up senior officer over traffic (Punch)

There was a mild drama on Saturday at the Simbiat Abiola Way, Ikeja, Lagos State, as a police corporal assaulted his superior during an argument.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the yet-to-be-identified corporal had confronted the superior officer, who was identified as Supol Edgar, for allegedly causing traffic at the junction linking the Awolowo Way.

This led to an argument, as the corporal punched Edgar.

Our correspondent learnt that the policeman did not know Edgar was a police officer who resided in a barracks close to the scene. Read more

Man bags 6 months imprisonment for possessing false documents (Guardian)

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of a Special Offences Court, Ikeja, Lagos, has sentenced a man, Yusuf Olawale Adetokunbo, to six months imprisonment for having a document containing false pretence.

The judge sentenced him after he pleaded guilty to one-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

EFCC had alleged that Adetokunbo, sometime in April 2022, with the intent to defraud, had in his possession a bundle of fraudulent chats containing false pretence in his Google voice app and his email.

The anti-graft said his offence was contrary to section 320 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Following his plea of guilty, the prosecution counsel, Mr. Nnaemeka Omenwa, urged the court to convict him accordingly. Read more

Police arrest serial thief who lures women to hotel in Lagos (Guardian)

Detectives of the Surulere Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 34-year-old Ifeanyi Odieze Ezenagu for allegedly robbing six women of their belongings.

The suspect robbed the women of their three iPhones 12, two iPhones 11 Pro Max, one iPhone XR, one Nokia phone, one wristwatch and one gold necklace, with a total value of N2,368,000, after he lured them to a hotel, where he laced their drinks, resulting in their falling into a deep slumber.

According to Lagos Police Spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, investigations reveal that the suspect has no fixed address but lures women to different hotels where he drugs and robs them clean. Investigations further reveal that he has robbed over thirty women since he ventured into this crime.

While the stolen items have all been recovered before he could dispose of them, the investigation is on to apprehend receivers of stolen items he works with. Suspects will be arraigned at the end of the investigation. Read more

Lagos task force impounds 322 motorcycles in Apapa, Ajah, others (Guardian)

Lagos State Task Force has carried out a week-long raid in parts of the state to rid the state of illegal commercial motorcycle activities on major highways across the state.

The exercise spearheaded by the chairman of the Agency, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Shola Jejeloye, took place in Agege/Fagba, Apapa and Ajah, where pockets of activities by Okada operators had been seen and reported to the Agency.  

Speaking of the incidents, Jejeloye vowed that all impounded motorcycles will be crushed, while those who failed to adhere to the ban will be arrested.

He said: “We have carried out marathon raids across the state because sightings have been made of pockets of Okada operations in some of the areas visited, mostly in the evenings and during the day to ensure that the ban on their activities is completely achieved. Read more

Lagos businessman bags 2 years imprisonment for stealing N18m (Guardian)

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of a Lagos Special Offences Court, Ikeja, yesterday, sentenced a cryptocurrency trader, Shola Henry, to two years imprisonment for stealing N18.460 million.

The judge found him guilty of stealing in a charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

While delivering judgment yesterday, Justice Taiwo gave the convict an option of fine in the sum of N2 million.

The convict was arraigned alongside his company, Henry Enterprise Concept on an amended seven-count charge, bordering on obtaining money under false pretenses and stealing by the EFCC. Read more
