RCCG pastor arraigned for allegedly raping daughter (Punch)

A Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Emmanuel Orekoya, was on Tuesday arraigned before the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for allegedly raping and impregnating his 17- year-old daughter.

The defendant is facing two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse and sexual assault preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.

It was also gathered that the defendant in the process of having sexual intercourse with his daughter, allegedly impregnated her. Read more

NDLEA intercepts ‘‘single largest’’ heroin consignment at Lagos airport (Punch)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted what it described as the single largest heroin consignment at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State.

The agency also said it had arrested members of an organised criminal organisation that specialises in trafficking heroin across Nigeria, South Africa, Mozambique, Europe, and America in an operation leading to the seizure of the consignment, which weighed 51.90 kilograms on February 12, 2024.

Meanwhile, checks by PUNCH Metro revealed that the seized drugs have an estimated worth of £5,190,000 (N10,365,987,000 at the N1,997.3/£ exchange rate) in street value of £100,000 per kilogram. Read more

Lagos police arraign woman caught on camera assaulting female cop (Punch)

A 26-year-old woman, Omorogbe Soni, has been arraigned by the Lagos State Police Command for assault, after she was captured on camera assaulting a policeman in Ajah on February 21, 2024.

The incident occurred when Soni engaged in a heated argument with the policewoman and subsequently pushed her, causing her to fall to the ground.

According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on his X account on Tuesday, Soni was presented before the Etiosa Magistrates’ Court in Ajah on February 22, 2024. She has since been remanded in the Kirikiri Female Correctional Centre till the next court sitting scheduled for March 27, 2024. Read more

Port terminal operator, dock worker arrested over 1,044.29kg cocaine (Punch)

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Sunday said it unmasked members of an organised criminal network behind the recent importation of two containers laden with illicit drugs as well as assorted arms and ammunition from Durban, South Africa to the Tincan seaport in Lagos.

The NDLEA made this known in a press statement by its Director, Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.

The agency said among those already arrested as members of the syndicate were a clearing and notification party of the two containers, Falowo Samuel Kayode; a dock worker, Anjorin Idowu and Uzairu Iguda, who was in charge of the Five Star terminal at the port. Read more

Lagos police arrest 8 suspected robbers on wanted list (Punch)

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested eight suspected armed robbers on its wanted list.

The spokesperson for the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Retired teachers lament as suspected landgrabbers terrorise Lagos estate (Punch)

Residents of the Teachers’ Renaissance Estate at Mosene Village, Isiu in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State have raised the alarm over the activities of suspected land grabbers in the community.

The residents who are mainly retired teachers from the state civil service told PUNCH Metro that the land grabbers were encroaching on their lands through forceful means.

Lagos to prosecute 11 suspects for extortion (Punch)

The Lagos State Government said 11 suspects arrested at the Ibeju-Lekki junction and Akodo area of the state will be prosecuted to serve as deterrents to others extorting residents and motorists in the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Olawale Musa, disclosed this while addressing journalists on Wednesday.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four persons for allegedly parading themselves as army officers at Aina Street, Oshodi and other parts of Lagos on February 19, 2024.

PUNCH Metro exclusively gathered on Wednesday from a police source that the quartet of Ben Okafor, Darlington Iheanacho, Jonathan Yahaya, and Mohammed Umar were nabbed following sting operations across the state.

Painter bags life jail for raping neighbour’s daughter (Punch)

The Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, on Wednesday, convicted and sentenced a painter, Azeez Salau, to life imprisonment for defiling his neighbour’s nine-year-old daughter.

Justice Abiola Soladoye handed down the sentence after finding Salau guilty of the offence of defilement charge preferred against him by the Lagos State Government.

Delivering her judgment, Justice Soladoye held that the convict was a sexual pervert who entered the room of his neighbour while she had gone to work at night and sexually assaulted the girl. Read more

Lagos police arrest 2 for kidnapping student (Punch)

Men of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikotun Division, have arrested two persons for allegedly kidnapping a female secondary school student.

The suspects, Adamaka Chinyere, f, and Bolajoko Haruna, m, were observed by some community residents who alerted the police.
