Penis chopped off in botched circumcision (Vanguard)
A 22-year-old man had his penis chopped off in a botched circumcision at age 10. He has had a compensation award of £500,000 reduced to just £20,000 after the Malay government appealed against his claim.
The unnamed victim reportedly lost roughly 90 per cent of his penis during the operation. It took place at the local hospital in his hometown of Kuala Lipis, Malaysia. The incident occurred December 13, 2010.
The medics, who reportedly severed his privates, were not qualified in microsurgeries. The decision was made to transfer the boy to Selayang Hospital where better qualified surgeons could rectify the situation.
However, the delay meant he was only operated on 10 hours later. At this point all hope for reattaching his penis was lost. Read more
Tribunal: Atiku files appeal at Supreme Court, seeks nullification of judgment (Channels)
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubaka, has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court, seeking nullification of the judgment of the Presidential Election Petitions Court, which upheld the declaration of President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 polls.
In the notice of appeal predicated on 35 grounds, Atiku insisted that the tribunal committed a grave error and miscarriage of justice in its findings and conclusion in its petition challenging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)’s declaration of Tinubu as President.
The notice of appeal is also praying the apex court to set aside the whole findings and conclusions of the Tribunal on the grounds that they did not represent the true picture of the grounds of his petition. Read more

Falana demands coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death (Punch)
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN, has requested a coroner’s inquest into the circumstances surrounding the passing away of musician Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Punch Online reports that Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, and was laid to rest just a day later.
In a formal letter addressed to the Chief Coroner of the High Court of Lagos State in Ikeja, Falana expressed deep concern about what he referred to as a “very tragic death.” He cited the Lagos State Coroner’s Law of 2007, specifically Section 15, which stipulates that an inquest should be conducted when a coroner becomes aware of a death within their district that results from violent, unnatural, or suspicious circumstances. 4 injured as car plunges into Lagos Lagoon (Nation)
A driver and three of his passengers have sustained injuries after their vehicle plunged into the lagoon in Lagos.
The incident occurred around 12:29 p.m. around Costain Roundabout inward Eko Bridge.
The vehicle, a Toyota Avalon car with registration number CAL-466GA, was said to have had a brake failure while moving at top speed. Read more
Lagos Palliative: Bariga LCDA subsidises bus fares, slashes health service cost (Tribune)
Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has subsidised fares on the Bariga Palliative Transport Bus Service, given food vouchers for rice, semovita, garri and beans, including 50 per cent cut on primary health services within the area.
Speaking on this initiative, The Executive Chairman of the Council, Alabi Kolade said the council decided to support its people through credible palliatives in order to lessen the impact of subsidy reduction on the most vulnerable population outside of the civil service.
Alabi also said financial assistance, food distributions, and a functional health care programme are being offered, adding that the first six (6) buses are fully automated and prepared to transport passengers at a 50 per cent discount as part of the Bariga Local Council’s palliative transport service. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) is probing the video of soldiers dialoguing with bandits in Katsina State.
While the clip had caused a stir on social media, the DHQ says an investigation has started to authenticate the video.
“The attention of the Defence Headquarters was drawn to a video clip in circulation across the social media handles of some soldiers engaging with bandits somewhere in Katsina State,” the Director of Defence Information, Tukur Gusau, said in a Monday statement. Read more

A Danish artist has been ordered to return close to $112,000 to a museum after only turning in two blank canvases.
Artist Jens Haaning had been sent the money by the Kunsten Museum in Aalborg, which believed he was planning to embed the banknotes in two glass frames as a commentary on wages in Denmark and Austria.

Disney and Pixar said Monday that their animated feature Elemental, starring Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie, has scored the biggest movie premiere of the year to date on Disney+, earning 26.4 million views in its first five days on the service.
The result, calculated by dividing total stream time by runtime, positions the film as one of the Top 10 in the history of the streamer, as far as premieres go. The flick directed by Peter Sohn is the most viewed-animated feature to come out of Disney/Pixar since Turning Red was released last March and has also notably bested that Oscar-nominated Domee Shi pic with the biggest Latin American Disney+ movie premiere of all time. The United States military said it has finally found debris from a missing F-35 fighter jet a day after asking for the public’s help in locating wreckage from the elusive warplane after a pilot ejected from the aircraft for unknown reasons.
The debris field from the F-35B Lightning II jet that went missing on Sunday afternoon was located on Monday in South Carolina’s rural Williamsburg County, according to the Marine Corps’s Joint Base Charleston.
“Personnel from Joint Base Charleston and @MCASBeaufortSC, in close coordination with local authorities, have located a debris field in Williamsburg County. The debris was discovered two hours northeast of JB Charleston,” the base said on social media, while also thanking local, county and state officials for their help in the hunt for the missing stealth fighter plane. Five Americans jailed for years in Iran and widely regarded as hostages are on their way home to the United States.
The last pieces in a controversial swap mediated by Qatar fell into place when $6bn (£4.8bn) of Iranian funds held in South Korea reached banks in Doha.
It triggered the departure of the four men and one woman in Tehran, who are also Iranian citizens, on a chartered flight to Qatar’s capital.
