Peter Obi’s supporters shut down Uyo

A gathering in support of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi took place On Tuesday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.

Comprising mostly young people, they descended on the city in large numbers to show their support for Obi.

In videos uploaded on Twitter, supporters could be seen chanting Obi’s name as they declared themselves ‘obidient’, a title associated with supporters of the presidential candidate.

Obi also met with University students at the E&R Event Centre in Uyo.

Obi said his administration, if elected in 2023, will create an enabling environment for them to thrive, referencing some of the biggest tech companies like Facebook and Google which were created by students.

The former governor of Anambra State told the students that his government then created a thriving environment for Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing and a host of others.

He also promised loans and grants for small and medium-scale businesses formed by students if he becomes Nigeria’s President next year. This, Obi added, will be a priority for his government.

On the dichotomy between polytechnic and university education, Obi said that technology is the future, adding that polytechnics will be at the core of producing technical graduates, who will drive the technological advancement of the country.
