Peter Schmeichel is considering entering an application to become Manchester United’s first director of football as he wants to restore the club’s ‘culture and identity’.
The Great Dane’s former team-mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has just been appointed interim manager until the end of the season, with United on the lookout for a long-term successor the the recently sacked Jose Mourinho.
United chiefs are in no rush to make the appointment, with executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said to be satisfied to wait until the end of the season before hiring a director of football, and Schmeichel is seriously weighing up his credentials for the role.
