NYSC: Educationist seeks end to age barrier (Vanguard)
Mr Ike Onyechere, Chairman, Exam Ethics Marshal International (EEMI) has called on the management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to allow Nigerians serve their fatherland irrespective of age. Onyechere made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Abuja. He said that age should not be a barrier for citizens who were willing to serve their fatherland through the NYSC. Read more
Fayemi signs order to stop education taxes as teachers get N200m loan (Punch)
The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has signed an Executive Order banning various fees collected by some principals, headteachers and other school officials. He also approved N200m as car and housing loans for teachers in public schools in the state to boost their morale. The governor disclosed that the loans would be disbursed on or before November 15 adding that payment of arrears of salaries owed by the last administration would commence any moment from now. Ogun empowers 50 female sex workers (Nation)
The Ogun Government says it has empowered over 50 female sex workers across the state between January and August in order to take them off the street. Mrs Biola Kufile- Okonji, Commissioner for Women Affairs, disclosed this in Abeokuta on Wednesday while playing host to the state House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development. Edo unveils paid Graduate Internship Programme (Nation)
The Edo State Government through its job creation platform, EdoJobs, has concluded plans to launch the Edo Graduate Internship Programme (Edo-GIP), designed as a 6-month intensive paid internship with the aim of providing young people with access to work experience. EdoJobs is an initiative of Governor Godwin Obaseki to create employment opportunities for 200,000 youths in the state. Three feared dead in Delta as vehicle plunges into Agbarho river (Punch)
No fewer than three persons have been reportedly drowned as vehicle carrying five passengers plunged into the Agbarho River along the East-West Road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. The incident was said to have occurred during a downpour on Tuesday. This is coming barely a month after a similar incident occurred, which claimed the lives of three persons who were returning from Bayelsa State. Read more
University professor commits suicide (Vanguard)
Prof. Frank Onyezili, a senior lecturer with the Biological Sciences Department of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, has committed suicide. Sources close to the professor told newsmen, on Wednesday in Makurdi that the deceased was found dead on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Mrs. Roseline Waku, the Director of Protocol and Information of the university, who confirmed the incident, however told NAN that she was not aware of why Onyezili killed himself. Read more
‘Explosive device’ sent to Clintons and Obama (BBC)
Suspected explosive devices were sent to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former US President Barack Obama, the US Secret Service has said. It comes two days after a bomb was found at the home of liberal philanthropist and financier George Soros in the suburbs of New York City. The devices were discovered by technicians who screen mail sent to the former US officials. Read more

Britain’s Prince Harry said on Wednesday that climate change was a daily threat for people of Fiji, and announced scholarships to study the problem. Prince Harry made this known as he toured with his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, on a visit to the South Pacific in Suva, Fiji, on the frontline of global warming. Man bags Nine months imprisonment (Nation)
A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced one Benjamin Ambi, to nine months imprisonment for attempting to escape from police custody. The judge, Mr Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option of N10,000 fine and warned him to be of good behaviour. Ambi, of no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to a three-count charge of criminal trespass, theft and escape from lawful custody and begged for leniency. Read more
Driver beats electricity official over power disconnection (Nation)
For allegedly beating up an electricity official and damaging his ladder, a 48-year-old driver, Isaac Alegbe, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos. Alegbe, a resident of Ojokoro, Ijaiye, Lagos, is being tried for damage and assault. The Prosecutor, Sergeant Godwin Awase, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Sept.12 at his residence. Read more
