Police arraign pregnant woman, partner over N6m theft (Punch)

The police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned a pregnant woman, Laura Aigbokhai, and her partner, Abimbola John, before the Ogba Magistrate’s Court over alleged theft of N6m.

The defendants, who were said to have conspired with others still at large, were alleged to have stolen the money from their employer.

Aigbokhai and John were charged with two counts of conspiracy and stealing.

The charges read in part, “That you, Abimbola Olanrewaju John, Laura Aigbokhai, and others still at large on June 23, 2022, at about 5.40pm at No. 3 Anthony Road, in the Anthony area of Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N6m, property of Rokee1388 Venture.” Read more

Extortion: Police return bizman’s money after PUNCH report (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has commenced investigation into the allegation of extortion of a Lagos businessman, Mudasir Adeleye, by some men of the Area C Police Command, Surulere.

The command also refunded the N20,500 extorted from the victim.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to our correspondent.

Hundeyin, in a video call with PUNCH Metro, showed our correspondent the victim and the officers, who had been arrested. Read more

Lagos re-arraigns broadcaster for posting sex video online (Punch)

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday re-arraigned an on-air personality, Uche Igwe, aka Darksam, before Chief Magistrate Adeola Adedayo of the Yaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly sharing a sex video clip involving some school pupils.

In May 2022, the police arraigned the 40-year-old staff member of Metro FM radio station on two counts of cyberstalking and breach of peace.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Chief Magistrate Adedayo admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N10m with three sureties in like sum. Read more

Lagos couple assault policemen over unregistered car, remanded (Punch)

A Lagos couple, Mr Clinton Ayobami and Mrs Adebayo Ayobami, have been remanded in prison for allegedly assaulting police officers attached to the Ipaja Police Division.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this on his Twitter handle on Monday.

He wrote, “Yesterday, July 24, 2022, at about 2:30pm, police officers of Ipaja Division flagged down a Mercedes Benz car for not having a number plate at Oluwaga-Ipaja. A passenger, Mrs Adebayo Ayobami, aggressively and disdainfully questioned why the police officers stopped her husband and not other vehicles.

“She thereafter declined to answer any question. In an attempt to get them to the station for further questioning owing to their unprovoked aggressiveness and suspicious behaviour, she and her husband, Ayobami Clinton, assaulted the police officers. The car was impounded; they were arraigned today and the court remanded them in Kirikiri prison.” Read more

Lagos woman arraigned for beating brother’s wife (Punch)

A 29-year-old woman, Oluchi Mbadugha, has been arraigned before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court, Ogba, Lagos State, for allegedly beating up her brother’s wife, Christian Precious.

The charge read in part, “That you, Oluchi Mbadugha, on May 12, 2022, around 9.30am on Sunday Farm Estate, Dopemu, Agege, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully inflict wound on one Christian Precious by cutting her lower lip and causing her permanent injury.”

The police prosecutor, Josephine Ikhayere, said the offence was punishable under Section 246(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defence counsel, Elona Ezulu, led the Investigating Police Officer, Inspector Agbo Blessing, in evidence. Read more

Lagos Magistrate’s court adjourns fraud case against Gbajabiamila (Guardian)

A Chief Magistrate’s Court, 1 Yaba, Lagos, yesterday, adjourned the fraud case against 62-year-old Suleiman Gbajabiamila to August 22, 2022 due to the defendant’s absence to court.

The Nigeria Police had arraigned Gbajabiamila before the court on June 20, 2022, for defrauding a United Kingdom-based Nigerian, Lateef Adeyemo of the sum of N30 million and was said to have been using the name of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, to defraud several persons and had been at large for months before he was arrested.

Gbajabiamila was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on stealing and false presentation, an offence punishable under Section 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.

According to the charge, Gbajabiamila had presented himself as an estate agent last year, fraudulently collecting and converting to his own use, N30 million meant for purchasing a two-bedroom flat for Adeyemo, between September and October 2021. Read more

39-year-old graduate bags 6 months jail term for N10m fraud (Guardian)

Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of a Special Offences Court, Ikeja, has sentenced a 39 year-old graduate, Babatunde Oladejo to six months imprisonment for N10m fraud.

The judge sentenced Oladejo to six months imprisonment after pleaded guilty to a count amended charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). 

EFCC’ counsel, Mr. Samuel Daji, had informed the court that the convict falsely represented himself as Lone Wolf to the victim, defrauded him of over N10 million.

He was also alleged to be in possession of fraudulent documents in his HP Elitebook laptop, which he used to defraud the victim.

His offence was contrary to Section 318 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

Lagos police arrest 4 fake soldiers, four suspected cultists (Guardian)

The Lagos State Police Command, Iju Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Gbenga Stephen, yesterday, arrested four fake soldiers in the Iju area of the state.

The fake soldiers, who were arrested at about 1:30a.m. in a Mazda3 saloon car are 28-year-old Samuel Abel; 35-year-old, Victor ljeemai; 43-year-old Lukman Salabiu and 30-year-old Oyinyechi Macus.

Spokesperson for the Command, Superintendent of Police (SP), Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Yaba for further investigation.

Also, detectives of the Command have arrested four members of rival cult groups for their nefarious and criminal activities plaguing the Badagry area of Lagos State. Read more

Police arraign 7 suspects for alleged armed robbery (Guardian)

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned seven suspected members of an armed robbery gang before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yaba, Lagos.

The suspects; Blessing Felix Onyema, Sunday Alabigu, Sylvester Nwajagu, Celestine Nnailo, Obinna Onu, Onyedike Vincent and Ido Vincent Chinedu were arraigned before Chief Magistrate P. E. Nwaka.

During the arraignment, prosecuting counsel, Williams Ologun, told the court that the suspects unlawfully conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit: robbery and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 259 and punishable under Section 297 (2) (a) (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

He informed the court that the suspects armed with guns allegedly stole 16 drums of Starlight, 96 core optic fibre cables valued N80 million, property of Jus Partners Cosmopolitan Limited and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 296 and punishable under Section 297(1)(2}(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
