Man arraigned for stealing tricycles, phones in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday arraigned a man named Azeez Jimoh for allegedly stealing two tricycles and a Tecno phone all valued at N3.5m in the Makoko area of the state.

The 24-year-old man was arraigned before Magistrate O. Y Adefope sitting before a Yaba Magistrate’s Court on two counts bordering on stealing.

The defendant was accused of stealing two TVS tricycles with registration numbers, FKJ291QN and KRD719QM, valued at N1.8m each, properties of one Mr Adimu Oluwaseun; and two Tecno phones valued at N120,000, property of one Ogundola, all valued at N3.720.000. Read more

Man stabs friend to death in Lagos (Punch)

A man identified as Eboh Joshua has lost his life after his friend, Adeyeye Adedolapo, allegedly stabbed him to death in the Baruwa, Ipaja area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident occurred at about 6:30 pm on Friday.

A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of victimisation revealed that a friend of the deceased, who had spent the night at his apartment the night before, killed him. Read more

Ex-convict remanded for raping six-year-old to death (Punch)

The Yaba Magistrate’s Court on Friday remanded a 20-year-old ex-convict, Azeez Tajudeen, for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl (name withheld) to death in the Ayobo area of Lagos State.

Our correspondent gathered in court that Tajudeen lured his victim with biscuits to an uncompleted building where he removed her clothes, and raped her four times with his hands on her mouth until she passed out from pain and suffocation.

According to the police prosecutor, Chekwube Okeh, the defendant, not knowing what to do when he found out that the girl was no longer breathing, left her corpse there naked and fled. Read more

LASTMA sacks 5 officials for corruption (Punch)

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has confirmed the dismissal of five officers and reprimanded two for being guilty of corruption and misconduct while performing their duties in the state.

This was disclosed in a statement made available to PUNCH Metro by the Public Relations Officer, LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the Lagos State Civil Service Commission had approved every proposal the Personnel Management Board had made about the seven LASTMA officers who had been indicted during their meeting on Tuesday, August 19, 2023. Read more

Car theft: Police arrest 2, recover stolen vehicle (Punch)

A 20-year-old Chidera Ozemina and 32-year-old Micheal Chukwu have been arrested by the operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly stealing a Range Rover SUV in United Estate Shangotedo, Ajah, in Lagos State on Sunday.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects also made away with the car’s documents.

The owner of the car, who does not want his name on print, claimed that he discovered the car had vanished from the premises when he returned from the market. Read more

Blind mother seeks help as stepdaughter disappears with baby (Punch)

A visually impaired woman, Agnes Forte, has raised the alarm over the disappearance of her one-year-old baby, Excel, in the Akowonjo area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Excel was in the company of her stepsister, Joy, on Tuesday, November 28, when she was last seen.

Agnes, who spoke to our correspondent, said she was in the room when the 13-year-old Joy and Excel were both playing along the corridor of their apartment. Read more

Hunter allegedly kills man over stolen dog (Punch)

A man identified as Abubakar Aliwata, also known as Atiku was killed by a yet-to-be-identified local hunter in the Gengeri, Mile 12 area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Online learnt that the incident happened around 10.30 pm on Saturday.

It was also learnt that Aliwata stole a puppy belonging to the local hunters in Gengeri which he was asked to return but he refused and challenged the hunters to a fight. Read more

EFCC arraigns man for $63,590 fraud (Punch)

The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Wednesday, arraigned one Abdulhamid Isah before Justice I.O. Ijelu of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja.

This was disclosed in a post on the official X handle of the EFCC on Wednesday.

The defendant is facing three counts of false pretences, stealing, and retention of proceeds of criminal conduct. Read more

Man arraigned for refusing to pay after drinking (Punch)

A man, Michael Adams, was on Wednesday arraigned at the Yaba Magistrate’s Court for allegedly ordering drinks worth N113.000 at a bar in the Shomolu area of Lagos State and refusing to pay the bartender.

Adams was arraigned by the police before Magistrate O.Y. Adefope on one count bordering on obtaining and drinking alcohol and others by the pretence that he would pay later.

According to the prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, Adams and his friends entered the VIP section of the bar and ordered drinks, and after drinking, they were given their bill but he refused to pay. Read more

Lady found dead in Lagos hotel, boyfriend disappears (Punch)

A yet-to-be-identified female adult has been found dead in a hotel at Morogbo in the Badagry area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident happened on Friday, November 31, after the deceased lodged into the hotel with a male partner.

Both guests were said to have arrived at the hotel in the morning of the said day and made payment for a short rest. Read more

Family demands justice for man allegedly killed by landgrabbers (Punch)

The family of the late Sheriff Salami, who was killed by suspected land grabbers at Ajiran in the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State embarked on a protest on Thursday, to demand justice for the deceased.

PUNCH Online learnt that Salami, while alive, was opposed to land-grabbing activities in the community.

He was, however, attacked and shot dead on April 18, while attending a function close to his residence. Read more

Customs secures conviction of Guinean for prohibited wildlife trafficking (Nation)

The Federal High Court in Lagos has sentenced a Guinean, Mamoduo Barete, to two years imprisonment for trafficking and trading in pangolin scales, a prohibited and endangered wildlife species. 

The conviction, secured by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), raises the Service’s convictions in illegal wildlife cases to no fewer than 11 between May and December 12, 2023. 

Tens of other wildlife trafficking suspects are standing trial in court, the NCS said in a statement yesterday. Read more 

Cleric arraigned over alleged N352k ‘‘special prayer’’ fraud (Nation)

A44-year-old man, David Eludi, who allegedly obtained N352,000 from a woman under false pretences, has been dragged before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The defendant, said to be a pastor, was arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretences and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. Read more

2023 Polls: Court sentences vote buyer to 1-year imprisonment (Nation)

An Ikeja High Court in Lagos State on Thursday sentenced Wahab Hammed to one year imprisonment for vote buying during the Presidential and National Assembly Elections held on Feb. 25.

Justice Ismail Ijelu, sentenced Hammed, to one year imprisonment and a fine option of N500,000 on each of the two counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).The judge had asked the defendant if he actually understood the facts reviewed against him by the prosecution counsel and the defendant answered in the affirmative.
