Lagos police arrest 2 for kidnapping student (Punch)
Men of the Lagos State Police Command, Ikotun Division, have arrested two persons for allegedly kidnapping a female secondary school student.
The suspects, Adamaka Chinyere, f, and Bolajoko Haruna, m, were observed by some community residents who alerted the police.
The police operatives later moved to the community, unnoticed, and apprehended the duo.
This was disclosed by the state Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a tweet shared via his X handle on Wednesday. Read more
Man jailed 10 years for stealing on New Year’s Day (Punch)
A Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Tuesday sentenced a man, Akinosun Omotayo, who stole and attempted to rape his victim on New Year’s Day, to 10 years’ imprisonment.
Justice Modupe Nico-Clay sentenced Omotayo following a plea bargain agreement he entered to lessen his punishment.
The judge held that the prison term shall begin from the day the convict was remanded in 2019.
Omotayo was first arraigned on three counts bordering on stealing, attempted rape, and assault preferred against him by the Lagos State Government. Read more
Panic as suspected land grabbers invade Lagos community (Punch)
There was apprehension on Friday, February 16, after suspected landgrabbers invaded Ajasa-Command, a suburb in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
PUNCH metro learnt that the land grabbers numbering about 500 were mobilised from Sango Ota, Ogun State, while claiming they were on a mission to execute a judgment over an expanse of land in the community.
Our correspondent learnt they were seen driving into the community in a convoy of over 10 vehicles, accompanied by an escort of close to 20 soldiers sighted in an army-coloured pick-up van with registration number NA 709BOF.
Also in the convoy was a team of policemen numbering about 40 and occupying yellow-coloured Volkswagen commercial buses. Read more
Canada visa: Engineer arraigned for defrauding brother of N11m (Punch)
A 35-year-old audio engineer, Elijah Olorunpimi, who allegedly defrauded his elder brother of N11m, under false pretence of helping him procure a Canadian visa, was on Monday arraigned before the Tinubu Magistrate Court on Lagos Island.
The defendant is facing four counts of conspiracy, stealing, obtaining, and breach of peace preferred against him by the police.
Our correspondent gathered that the defendant and others still at large conspired to swindle his 46-year-old elder brother, Steve Olorunpomi, who is a pastor, out of the sum of N11m, with a promise to help him get a Canadian visa. Read more
Man jailed 14 years for attempted sexual assault (Punch)
A 55-year-old man, Emmanuel Adedigba, who attempted to sexually assault his neighbour’s 14-year-old daughter, was on Monday sentenced to 14 years imprisonment by the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court.
Justice Rahman Oshodi handed down the sentence after the convict was re-arraigned on an amended charge.
The convict was earlier arraigned on the charge of defilement which he pleaded not guilty to. Read more
Lagos police arrest 3 suspected one-chance robbers (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three suspected members of a one-chance robbery gang.
This was disclosed in a statement shared on the command’s X handle on Saturday.
‘‘One chance’’ is commonly used in Nigeria to refer to a robbery that takes place when criminals disguised as commercial drivers pick up unsuspecting passengers intending to rob them.

3 jailed five years for trafficking 38.50kg tramadol (Punch)
The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday convicted and sentenced a 51-year-old Qatar-based Nigerian businessman, Uchegbu Obi, and two others to five years imprisonment, for trafficking 38.5 kilograms of tramadol.
The other two convicts sentenced alongside Obi are Usman Inda, 48, and Sani Salisu, 48.
The convicts were arraigned on two counts bordering on conspiracy and drug trafficking preferred against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Read more
Freight agent, others arrested over seized loud consignment in Lagos (Punch)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Sunday said it arrested three suspects, namely, a freight agent, Akeem Afeez; a logistics company manager, Babalola Ayodeji Gboyega and the receiver, Taiwo Olusegun Anuoluwapo, over a large consignment of loud it intercepted at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos last week.
The loud consignment, a synthetic strong strain of cannabis, was concealed in giant loudspeakers tucked in a consolidated cargo imported from New York, United States of America.

Lagos police arrest one-chance robbers (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested one 45-year-old, Okoro, and one 42-year-old, Patience, in a ‘one chance’ robbery in Lagos.
PUNCH Online gathered that the incident occurred at about 6:00 am on Saturday.
It was also learnt that the robbers often pose as commercial bus drivers while abducting unsuspecting passengers to different locations to defraud them of their properties. Read more
EFCC arraigns man for alleged N15.5m car proceed theft (Punch)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, on Wednesday, charged a man, Mike Obaze, before the Ikeja Special Offences Court over alleged theft of N15.5m, proceeds from car sales.
Obaze was arraigned on three counts bordering on stealing preferred against him by the anti-graft agency.
The EFCC’s prosecuting counsel, Ahmed Yerima, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence between November and December 8, 2021, in Lagos.
He said the defendant allegedly converted the sum of N7m, proceeds from the sale of a Mercedes Benz GL 12 Model, property of one Mr Anene Nwandukwe.
Court arraigns pastor over failure to produce suspects (Nation)
A 57-year-old pastor, Jude Ojo was arraigned before Ogba magistrate court, Ikeja, Lagos, for failing to produce five suspects for whom he stood as surety.
Among the suspects were dethroned traditional ruler of Otumara community, Ladi Arowojolu, Shola Adegun and three others.
The suspects were investigated by the Lagos State police command, CP squad led by ASP Jagunno on allegations bordering on illegal possession of firearms, assault and disruption of public peace and threat to life. Read more
4 held over issuance of fake police character certificate (Nation)
Detectives attached to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos, have arrested four suspected members of a syndicate that specialized in issuing fake police character certificates to Nigerians wishing to travel overseas.
The suspects, Osinowo Olujimi Obafemi, 35, Sebastine Olamide, 21, Shittu Babatunde, 25 and Bilal Yekeen, 25, were arrested by the FCID X-Squad after a woman, Mrs Shonekan Rukayat Mojisola, who innocently patronised them, got a 10-year ban from the United Kingdom for presenting forged documents.
According to a statement yesterday by spokesperson for the FCID Annex, ASP Aminat Mayegun, Mojisola reported a case of falsification of police character certificate, obtaining money under false pretence, impersonation, forgery of signatures and official stamp against the suspects at the department and detectives immediately commenced investigation into the matter. Police nab 2 cable vandals (Nation)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two men for allegedly vandalising electricity cables belonging to the Lagos State Electricity Board.
The command said that it received a distress call from the board about the vandals’ activities, at about 2:30pm on Friday, adding that operatives were deployed to the scene and the suspects caught.
It identified the culprits as Paul Philip and Chris Abu, adding that some of the tools used were recovered from them. Read more
