Police arrest 49-year-old man for bathing with blood in Ogun (Tribune)

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 49-year-old man, Ganiyu Shina, for allegedly bathing with blood at a river bank, in Kotopo area of Abeokuta.

In a statement issued by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said that the suspect who was a resident of No 4, Oguji street, Obantoko, Abeokuta, was arrested on Thursday while perpetrating the act at a community river in Kotopo area of Odeda local government.

According to the PPRO, the suspect was arrested when members of the community sighted him at the River Bank, where he parked his Nissan commercial vehicle, came out with a local sponge and a container filled with blood and started bathing with it.

“Immediately he discovered that some people were watching him, he took to his heels, but was chased and apprehended by members of the community. Read more 

How fleeing Adedoyin’s son, Roheem dumped Adegoke’s remains, belongings, by witness (Guardian)

Oyetunde Kazeem, one of the staff of Hilton Honours Hotel, Ile-Ife in the murder trial of Timothy Adegoke, yesterday, told an Osun State High Court 1, Osogbo, how the remains of the deceased were dumped inside a bush.

Kazeem,  the fifth defendant, who appeared as a witness when the matter came up for hearing before Justice Adepele Ojo, however,  denied stealing the deceased’s belongings after his remains were dumped inside the bush.

Led in evidence by his counsel, Murtala Abdulrasheed, the witness said the owner of the hotel, Rahman Adedoyin,  was not at the hotel premises on the day Adegoke lodged in the hotel, adding that fleeing Adedoyin’s son, Roheem, the Managing Director at the hotel, asked him (Kazeem) and two other staff  members to accompany him to take the corpse to the mortuary.

He said it was on their way that Roheem parked and dumped Adegoke’s remains alongside his laptop, bag, vovo phone and money beside him. On allegation that he conspired with Adedoyin Roheem to administer an fetish oath on other workers of the hotel, Kazeem denied taking or administering any oath, insisting that he neither dumped the corpse nor stole any of his belongings.

While being cross-examined by the prosecuting counsel, Femi Falana, the witness denied driving the Hilux vehicle, in which Adegoke’s remains were conveyed for the purpose of deposing it, saying that the vehicle belonged to Roheem. Read more 

Appeal Court voids sack of Cole, others as Rivers APC candidates (Nation)

An Appeal Court sitting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, has set aside the judgment of a Federal High Court that sacked all candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 general election, including the party’s governorship candidate, Tonye Cole.

On October 25, the Federal High Court, presided over by Justice Emmanuel Obile, sacked the candidates of the APC, following a suit filed by George Orlu and five others.

The respondents had alleged that they were excluded from the party’s delegate congresses.

But the Appeal Court, in three separate judgments on appeals brought by the APC, Tonye Cole, and the National and State Assembly candidates, reversed the verdict. Read more

Lagos schoolgirl launches Tinubu support group, APC kicks (Punch)

Mixed feelings have continued to trail 15-year-old Mercy Williams’ dive into politics.

A student of an undisclosed Lagos secondary school, Williams recently launched a political support group under the aegis of City Boy Progressive Group to promote the presidential ambition of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Her father, Friday Williams, was a broadcaster who worked with Faji FM and Jordan before he retired prematurely owing to his health challenge.

While a considerable number of the APC stalwarts applauded her courage by starting politics at an early age, others, including the National Publicity Director of the party, Bala Ibrahim, frowned upon her action. Read more

Igbobi College Old Boys Association lifts less privilege (Guardian)

Determined to give succour to less privilege in the society and put smiles on the faces of children with special need, Igbobi College Yaba Old Boys Association 1996 Set (ICOBA ’96), paid a visit to the Hearts of Gold Children Hospice, a care and management center for children with mental and extreme physical disabilities, as part of activities for its end of the year celebration.

According to Set Chairman, Mr. Bankole Agunbiade, the essence of the visit is to bring smiles on the faces of the children and give them that love that they need, especially during this season of festive celebrations.

He said, “Like we sing our school anthem, ‘wherever there is an Igbobian, there is always a noble Nigerian’. LAWMA marks 2022 Christmas Carol/End of Year Thanksgiving (Sun)

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has held its annual Christmas Carol/End of The Year Thanksgiving service to celebrate the faithfulness of God to the agency in the outgoing year. The event which took place at the Authority’s headquarters, Ijora Olopa, was witnessed by LAWMA’s management and staff, as well as friends and well-wishers.

In his welcome address, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, represented by the Executive Director, Finance, Mr. Kunle Adebiyi, thanked God for preserving the workers of the Authority in the outgoing year in spite of the various challenges faced.

Odumboni also appreciated the state government for its immense support which resulted in improved waste management operations towards achieving a cleaner and livable Lagos. Tanker explosion destroys shops, houses in Ibadan (Vanguard)

A fully loaded petrol tanker on Thursday lost control and rammed into a block of shops and thereafter burst into flames in the Apata area of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the incident happened at Apata Junction opposite Oando Filling Station, destroying many houses and shops.

NAN reports that the fire, which started around 6.15 p.m led to traffic gridlock on the major Ibadan-Abeokuta Highway.

A witness, who pleaded anonymity, said the tanker was coming from the NNPC area before it lost control and rammed into the shops opposite the filling station. Read more

Jane Fonda says she’s in remission from cancer (Variety)

Jane Fonda’s cancer is in remission, the “Grace and Frankie” star announced Thursday on Instagram.

“BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER!!!” wrote Fonda, who turns 85 on Dec. 21. “Last week I was told by my oncologist that my cancer is in remission and I can discontinue chemo. I am feeling so blessed, so fortunate. I thank all of you who prayed and sent good thoughts my way.”

The two-time Oscar winner had previously taken to Instagram Sept. 2 to announce she’d been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and had started on a six-month long chemo journey. She assured followers that the cancer is “very treatable” and has an 80% survival rate. Read more

Eminem and the late Nate Dogg have set a new Spotify streaming record with their 20 year old collaboration, Till I Collapse.

Chart Data confirmed in a tweet on Thursday (December 15) that the song has now surpassed 1.5 billion streams on Spotify – making it the most streamed non-single in history.

The mega-hit lives on Em’s 2002 album The Eminem Show, which also features the hits Cleanin’ Out My Closet, Without Me and Sing For the Moment. Till I Collapse was never given an official music video or worked on the radio.

In 2012 – a decade after its release and one year after Nate Dogg’s passing – the song was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry of America (RIAA). And just before the song’s official 20th birthday earlier this year, it was certified a whopping 8x platinum. Read more

The beloved 2019 video game Death Stranding is heading to the big screen with a new adaptation.

Death Stranding’s iconic creator – Hideo Kojima – and his Kojima Productions banner is teaming with Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios to produce the film, via Variety.

It will be the first video game movie adaptation to come out of Kojima Productions, and it is said to introduce new characters into this world as well.

Death Stranding is set in the United States, in the aftermath of a mysterious cataclysmic event that lead to massive creatures roaming what was left of the Earth after society has crumbled. Read more

Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil’s new side project Empire State Bastard have announced their first show.

The project, which also includes Biffy’s touring guitarist Mike Vennart, will make their debut at the French metal festival Hellfest alongside the likes of Kiss, Mötley Crüe, Iron Maiden and Slipknot.

The band will play on the last night of the event which takes place in Clisson from June 15-18.

This year’s event saw the likes of Guns N’ Roses, Metallica, Scorpions and Nince Inch Nails headline. Read more .

Henry Cavill has seen his odds to become the next James Bond slashed after he confirmed he was axed from his role as Superman.

The 39-year-old took to social media overnight to announce that he would not be returning to the franchise after a meeting with DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Despite Kick-Ass star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, 32, becoming a surprise front-runner to take over from Daniel Craig as Bond in recent days, Henry’s odds have been cut since he became available for the role.

2 dead, 51 missing after landslide hits campsite in Malaysia (NBC)

Two people died and 51 others were feared buried after a landslide hit a campsite outside Kuala Lumpur early Friday, Malaysia’s fire department said.

A fire department official in central Selangor said 79 people were believed to have been at the campsite in Batang Kali, around 31 miles north of Kuala Lumpur, when the incident occurred.

A child and a woman were found dead, the official told The Associated Press. Three people were injured while rescuers were searching for the estimated 51 missing people, the official said. Another 23 people have been rescued.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department chief Norazam Khamis was reported by Bernama news agency as saying that firefighters began arriving at the scene half an hour after receiving a distress call at 2:24 a.m. Read more 

Leeds want Aina as Firpo replacement (Punch)

Ahead of the January transfer window, English Premier League club, Leeds United, have once again reignited their interest in Nigeria international, Ola Aina, as the club look to find a replacement for ineffective former Barcelona player Junior Firpo and maintain their status in the topflight league.

Aina has been strongly linked with a move away from Torino with the Premier League club showing so much interest in the defender.

The 26-year-old joined Torino in 2018 from Chelsea, initially on a loan deal, before the Italians made the deal permanent the following season, after an impressive campaign.

President of France Emmanuel Macron wants to take a group of injured national team players to the World Cup final on Sunday afternoon.

Players such as Karim Benzema, Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante have all missed out on Les Bleus’ terrific World Cup campaign due to respective injuries sustained in recent weeks.

However, Macron wants to get these players involved at the final hurdle by bringing them along for the final clash against Argentina this weekend. 

According to MARCA, France’s sports minister Amelie Oudea-Castera confirmed Macron’s interest in bringing injured players to the final. Read more

Lando Norris is not feeling extra weight of responsibility despite now being the experienced driver of the McLaren line-up.

For the past two seasons Norris has found himself racing alongside a Formula 1 veteran in Daniel Ricciardo, who made his debut in the series back in 2011.

But with Ricciardo losing his seat to rookie Oscar Piastri, that suddenly means that 23-year-old Norris, with his four seasons of experience, is the wise head at McLaren.

Rafael Nadal named ITF World Champion for a 5th time as Iga Swiatek honoured for 1st time

Rafael Nadal and Iga Swiatek are the big 2022 tennis winners as the Grand Slam champions have been named the ITF World Champions of the year.

Former world No 1 Nadal received the award on the back of winning the Australian Open and French Open to become the outright leader for most Grand Slam singles titles won by a man.

The Spaniard, who sits on 22 majors, lost only one match in the Grand Slams this year as he withdrew from his Wimbledon semi-final clash ahead of the encounter against Nick Kyrgios and exited the US Open in the fourth round. He finished the year with a 39-8 win-loss record.

“I’m very happy to be named ITF World Champion for the fifth time,” Nadal said. “When I first won the award in 2008, I would not have expected to still be playing at such a high level 14 years later. Read more
