Lagos police arrest 32-year-old woman for child maltreatment (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 32-year-old woman, Funmi Faith, for allegedly mistreating a female child.

The arrest was announced by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Wednesday.

The incident came to light after an X user had shared the video asking for help rescuing a female child who was being maltreated. Read more

Customs, Soldiers foil smuggling attempt in Badagry (Punch)

In a recent operation, a joint patrol team comprising the Nigerian Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, and soldiers intercepted a boat carrying smuggled goods, including rice and vehicles, in the Badagry area of Lagos State.

However, the smugglers following the interception responded violently, attacking the customs and army personnel, resulting in injuries to some officers.

This was revealed in a statement by the Unit’s Public Relations Officer, Theophilus Duniya, on Tuesday. Read more

Serial killer-passengers stab 2 Lagos e-hailing drivers dead (Punch)

Two members of a syndicate specialised in the killing of e-hailing drivers and profiting from the sales of the vehicles stolen from their victims have been arrested by policemen in Lagos State.

The arrested members include Roqib Moshood and an alleged accomplice, Olawale Kolawole.

Our correspondent learnt that efforts were on to arrest other fleeing gang members, including Yusuf Adeyemi, who, alongside Moshood, allegedly killed an e-hailing driver, Oluwaseun Adeniran, dumped his corpse by the roadside and stole his vehicle. Read more

Police grill Mohbad’s dad over petition by Lagos monarch (Punch)

Joseph Aloba, father to the late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, aka Mohbad, was on Monday grilled by officers of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State over a petition filed by Oba Saheed Elegushi.

The head of the Aloba legal team, Monisola Odumosu, in a statement on Tuesday, said the petition borders on cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation.

Odumosu explained that the allegation came on the heels of an interview granted by Aloba recently. Read more

Apprentice arrested for horticulturist’s alleged kidnap in Lagos (Punch)

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 37-year-old apprentice, Ayuba Ezekiel, for alleged kidnap and stealing.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the incident occurred on November 24, 2023, at the CMD Road, Ikosi Ketu.

Ayuba was employed as a sales boy by the kidnapped victim, Juliana Adamma, a horticulturist. Read more

Ex-worker, accomplice kill Lagos bizman, steal N3.2m (Punch)

A businessman, Ali Usman, has been killed by his ex-employee, identified simply as Zubar, and an accomplice, one Rasaq, in the Agbowa Ikosi community in the Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Usman, an indigene of Kwara State, was riding his motorcycle with his son, Sobur, when Zubar and Rasaq ambushed them at a desolate location close to his residence around the General Hospital area in Agbowa Ikosi.

During the ambush, our correspondent learnt that the suspects used sticks to repeatedly hit Usman’s head till he lost consciousness at the scene of the attack. Read more

NAFDAC arraigns businessman producing fake Schnapps (Punch)

The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, on Friday, arraigned a 40-year-old businessman, Chinedu Okafor, before the Federal High Court in Lagos, for allegedly producing fake aromatic Schnapps and fruit juice wines.

Okafor, whose firm’s name is ‘Sky Blue Company’ is facing an eight-count charge bordering on manufacturing, dealing, selling, distributing, and having unwholesome processed food. Read more

Woman bags 6 months jail for hawking naira notes (Punch)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Crimes Commission says it has secured the conviction of a woman, Bilikis Adeyinka, for hawking naira notes in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.

The EFCC in a statement on its Facebook page on Thursday disclosed that the convict was arrested while hawking a sum of N897,900, an act which contravened Section 21(4) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (Establishment) Act, 2007.

Following Adeyinka’s arrest, she was arraigned before Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke of a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos State on one count bordering on currency racketeering, an offence she reportedly pleaded guilty to. Read more

Mother, son accused of N122m theft granted N100m bail (Punch)

A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Wednesday granted N100m bail to a mother, Lola Disu and her son, Ahmed Disu, who were arraigned last week for allegedly stealing property worth N122m.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro had remanded the mother and son in Kirikiri prison pending the hearing of their bail application.

During Wednesday’s proceedings, the defendants’ counsel, Solomon Ojo, moved the bail application dated May 17, 2024, urging the court to grant bail on the most liberal terms. Read more

Uber driver jailed 8 years for PoS fraud (Punch)

The Chief Magistrate Court, Yaba, Lagos State, on Wednesday, pronounced an eight-year prison term for Azeez Adedeji, a driver, convicted of attempted Point of Sale fraud.

The verdict came from Magistrate Patrick Nwaka, who delivered judgment on the two counts of attempted fraud.

Subsequently, the defendant opted to file for a plea bargain agreement, leading to the amendment of the charges. Read more 

NDLEA arrests couple running drug cartel, rejects N6m bribe (Punch)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has confirmed the arrest of a couple, Bolanle and Olayinka Dauda, for running a cocaine trafficking cartel where the multi-billion-naira worth of illicit drugs were recovered in two major operations in Lagos and Ogun states.

The spokesperson for the agency, Femi Babafemi, confirmed in a statement on Monday that the raids were intelligence-led, adding that Bolanle and Olayinka were arrested through a joint operation involving the agency’s officials and the Drug Enforcement Administration of the United States.

The statement read in part, “The duo were arrested on Saturday, May 25, 2024, by operatives of a special operation unit in the NDLEA with the support of Drug Enforcement Administration of the United States at Ibiye, along Lagos-Badagry Expressway, while attempting to cross the land border to deliver the consignment in Ghana. Pastor assaults wife over alleged infidelity, seeks divorce (Punch)

Modupe, wife of the founder and lead pastor of an evangelical ministry based in Lagos State, identified simply as Akintunde, has accused the cleric of assaulting her over allegations of infidelity she levelled against him at their residence in the Onosa community, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the couple’s marriage, blessed with five children, started experiencing challenges when Modupe, on separate occasions, accused her husband of having a romantic affair with two church members.

Angered by the allegations, Modupe claimed that her husband allegedly slapped and beat her up, adding that during one of the attacks, she lost consciousness and was later hospitalised. Read more

Hoodlums attack Lagos police station (Punch)

Panic ensued in a section of Lagos State on Monday when more than 100 hoodlums stormed the Ipaja Police Station.

It was gathered that the attack resulted in a gun battle between the thugs and police officers during which several of the thugs who launched the attack were killed.

The incident caused fear among residents as the attack resulted in a subsequent exchange of gunfire. Read more
