Police arrest ex-convict, 6 others for traffic robbery in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested seven suspected traffic robbers, including an ex-convict released three days ago from Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday.

Hundeyin said that the ex-convict was picked alongside others while allegedly carrying out the crime in the Ijora-Apapa axis on Saturday at about 9.30 p.m.

3 suspects steal N60m roofing sheets in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned three men, Stanley Gabriel, Yusuf Olaitan, and Ifeanyi Ogbu, for allegedly stealing roofing sheets worth N60m property of a company, Landing Zhao, in the Dopemu area of the state.

The trio were arraigned before Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun on three counts of stealing and receiving stolen goods.

Two of the defendants, Gabriel and Olaitan, were alleged to have taken the materials from the warehouse of the company, sold them to Ogbu and others still at large, and then shared the proceeds among themselves. Read more 

Family demands justice for slain Lagos cop, tackles Nigerian Navy (Punch)

The family of late Assistant Superintendent of Police, Hezekiah Abiona, has said officials of the Nigerian Navy abandoned them after two naval ratings stabbed their breadwinner to death in the Satellite Town area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro had reported that the ratings, including Onyekachi Egwin and Nnamani Anointing, while dressed in mufti, were on a motorcycle when Abiona and his colleagues flagged them down on Oluti Street, Satellite Town.

The action of the policemen was said to have infuriated the ratings and an argument ensued between them. Read more

Slain cop: Navy says ratings will be court-martialed (Punch)

The Nigerian Navy, on Tuesday, said the errant ratings involved in the alleged killing of an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Hezekiah Abiona, in the Satellite Town area of Lagos State, would soon be court-martialed.

This development came after the slain cop’s son, Benjamin, and wife, Esther, accused the naval authorities of feigning ignorance of their anguish after the ratings, Onyekachi Egwin and Nnamani Anointing, allegedly stabbed their breadwinner to death in the line of duty.

They also said the investigation into the case was going at snail’s speed, arousing suspicion that the naval authorities were trying to sweep the case under the carpet. Read more

Manager arraigned for stealing N32m from Lagos company (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command, on Friday, arraigned a 28-year-old man of Indian origin, Himanshu Joshi, before the Yaba Magistrates’ Court, in the Yaba area of the state.

Joshi, a manager at the Cash-n-Carry Nigeria Limited, was accused of stealing N32m belonging to his employer.

The defendant was arraigned before Magistrate O. Y. Adefope, who held briefs for A. O. Salawu on one count of stealing. Read more

Lagos court remands 11 suspects for murder (Punch)

A Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Yaba area of Lagos State, on Friday, ordered the remand of 11 suspected cult members for alleged cultism and murder in the state.

The defendants were arraigned before Chief Magistrate O. Y Adefope, on one count of conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society and murder of three members of another cult group.

According to the prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, the cultists, on May 23, 2023, gathered at the Ikorodu area of the state, planned and carried out an ambush against members of the Aiye Confraternity in the Ogolontoto area of the state and allegedly murdered three rival members including Saheed, Ope and one David. Cop impersonator steals Lagos artisan’s phone in police station (Punch)

A yet-to-be-identified man, who impersonated one of the policemen attached to the Idimu Police Station, has stolen the mobile phone of an artisan, Kehinde Adesina, on the premises of the station in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that policemen attached to the station arrested the 35-year-old artisan on Tuesday, June 6, for violating the traffic rule in the state.

The policemen subsequently took Adesina to the police station where they were said to have demanded N20,000 from him to release his vehicle. Read more

Lagos police arrest dismissed corporal impersonating inspector (Punch)

Police in Lagos State have arrested a dismissed corporal allegedly impersonating a serving Inspector of Police.

According to the Police spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Saturday, police operatives arrested the suspect on June 4 at Gaskiya College Road Junction, Ijora-Badiya, the News Agency of Nigeria reports.

Hundeyin said a preliminary investigation showed that the suspect had been using the uniforms since his dismissal from the police in 2017. Read more

Man gets life jail for raping girlfriend (Leadership)

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos State Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court sitting in Ikeja has sentenced a man, Eniola Ibrahim, to life imprisonment for raping his girlfriend on her first visit to his house.

Ibrahim was arraigned before the court by the state government on a one-count charge of having sexual intercourse with the survivor without her consent on June 6, 2012, at his residence, Lateef Dosunmu Street, Lagos.

The convict, who was arraigned on December 1, 2021 had pleaded not guilty to the charge, which the prosecution had said violated Section 260 of the Criminal Law Ch. C17, Volume 3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015. Read more 

Qatar-based drug barons arrested as NDLEA intercepts meth consignment at Lagos Airport (Leadership)

Qatar-based drug kingpins, Eyah Celestine Nnamdi, alias Murphy and Ugwuoke Peter Oluchukwu, have been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) following the interception of their methamphetamine consignment at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA) Ikeja, Lagos.

Ugwuoke was the first to be arrested on June 9, 2023 during the outward clearance of Qatar Airways passengers at the departure point, Terminal 2 of the Lagos Airport.

NDLEA officers discovered that the suspect was travelling to Doha with an Ivorian international passport with the name Hien Narcisse. A further scrutiny of his black carry-on luggage led to the discovery of a false bottom concealment of two parcels of crystalline substance that tested positive to methamphetamine weighing 1.00kg. Robbery suspect arrested 3 days after leaving prison (DailyTrust)

A suspected traffic robber simply identified as Kingsley has been rearrested three days after he was released from Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

The 45-year-old suspect was arrested along with six others while allegedly robbing travellers who were held in the chaotic traffic at Ijora Badia area of Lagos.

Investigations revealed that the suspect hooked up with his previous gang members at the white sand area of Ijora-Badia immediately after he was freed. Read more

Police arrest syndicate member defrauding fuel stations in Lagos (Nation)

The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested a suspected member of a syndicate, which allegedly specialises in defrauding fuel stations across the state.

The Command’s Spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos.

Hundeyin said that the Isheri Police Division carried out the arrest after receiving a complaint from the manager of Enyo Filling Station, located along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway at about 2.30 p.m on May 17, 2023. Read more

Sex Therapist arraigned for alleged N275m internet scam (Independent)

An Abuja-based sex therapist, Cecilia Agu, was on Tuesday arraigned by the police before a Federal High Court sitting in La­gos over an alleged N275 million internet scam.

The defendant is facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, forgery, fraud, and obtaining by false pretence.The prosecutor Samuel Eredia told the court that the de­fendant and others at large com­mitted the offence on February 20, 2023.
