Police arrest alleged kidnapper of 2 kids (Guardian)

The Lagos State police command yesterday arrested a woman who allegedly abducted two little children around Yaba area of the state.

The suspect, one Mary Vera Henry, was intercepted by detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Mary Ubangha, a Chief Superintendent of Police, when she was trying to escape with the kids.

Lagos police boss, Imohimi Edgal, told newsmen that the case of Vera and another incident involving a pastor is a clarion call for parents and guardians to be more vigilant over their children as sexual predators and kidnappers are on the rise. Read more

Lagos pastor arrested for allegedly raping nine-year-old (Punch)

A 54-year-old pastor of a church, Christ Abiding Church, on Bankole Street, Somolu, Lagos, has been accused of raping a nine-year-old daughter of his neighbour.

The pastor, Udoh Okon, reportedly molested the girl in his wife’s shop on several occasions before the alleged crime was reported to the police on April 18. PUNCH Metro gathered that the mother of the girl had observed semen dripping out of her private parts while she was asleep.

After pestering her, she allegedly told her mother that Okon slept with her and that he had been doing so since 2017. Read more

Court demands N360,000 for man accused of N360,000 fraud (Punch)

A car dealer, Nelson Oyem, has been remanded in the Ikoyi Prison after he was accused of defrauding a man of N360,000.

Oyem, who was arraigned at the Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court, was granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr. O.A. Komolafe, however, added that the sureties should deposit the sum of N360,000 in the account of the Chief Registrar of Lagos State before the bail could be perfected. The 32-year-old was arraigned on April 17 on two counts of fraud and stealing. Read more

Man jailed three months for theft (Nation)

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court yesterday sentenced a 28-year-old man, Bidemi Eweje to three months imprisonment for stealing a handbag and sum of N227,300 property of Fumilayo Ajisafe.

Eweje was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Y. O Aje-Afunwa on a two-count of conspiracy and stealing. Police prosecutor, Inspector Peter Nwangwu told the court that the convict committed the offence on March 22, at 4.50pm along Airport Road, Lagos.

Nwangwu told the court that the convict stole one brown handbag containing two black purse and N277,300 cash belonging to Ajisafe. Read more

Police arrest suspected shop burglars in Trade Fair complex (Guardian)

The Lagos State police command has arrested two notorious shop looters at the Trade Fair international complex, Ojo, Lagos.

Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal, told newsmen that the burglars had been robbing shop owners in Balogun axis of millions of naira.

According to Edgal, “we don’t want to bore you with a story of burglary, however, what makes this one unique is that the culprits were caught in the act carting away goods worth millions of naira at the Trade Fair Complex, on Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

“On April 26, at about 2:00a.m., the DPO Trade-Fair Division, Sunny Akaeze, got a tip-off that a syndicate specialising in breaking and looting shops at Trade Fair Complex are about to operate in BBA arm of the complex. Read more

Police arrest mother for allegedly burning daughter with hot iron (Guardian)

The Lagos State police command has commenced investigation into the case of domestic abuse inflicted by a mother on her daughter.

The suspect, 30-year-old Ayo Sheriff, has been arrested for burning her daughter, 16-year-old Aishat, with a hot pressing iron over a minor misunderstanding. Investigation revealed the abuse was reported by Chosen Child Orphanage Home, located at Gastya Estate, Ijora-Badia.

According to spokesman of the police, the mother had burnt Aishat on her upper and lower right limbs with an electric iron over a minor misunderstanding. Read more
