Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Lagos State Police Command have arrested one Ataghar Namdoo, 26, for allegedly faking her own kidnap.

It was gathered that on January 9, 2020 at about 5.30pm, the suspect conspired with her boyfriend Emmanuel Idu and another suspect Okpe David to produce a short video of her blindfolded and driven to a bush in a truck.

According to Lagos State police spokesman, Bala Elkana, in another video, the girl, a mother of one, was seen in a bush at Sangotedo area, Ajah, threatened by a man wearing a mask and holding a Jack knife. Police later identified the masked man as Emmanuel Idu who is the boyfriend of the girl. Read more

LAWMA to create `Wall of Shame’ for environmental offenders (Guardian)

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), will soon begin a campaign tagged: `Hall of Fame’ and `Wall of Shame’, to recognise efforts of individuals whose activities promote and contravene environmental cleanliness respectively in the state.

Mrs Folasade Kadiri, Assistant Director, Public Affairs of LAWMA, made this known in a statement in Lagos on Sunday.

According to her, the naming and shaming of residents are those who indulge in reckless waste disposal.

Man kills pregnant wife, throws corpse from five-storey building (Nation)

A pregnant woman was at the weekend allegedly killed by her husband  in Fegge, Onitsha, Anambra state.

The incident was said to have taken place in their apartment located at the last floor of a five-storey building at No. 9, Obosi street at about 10pm.

The suspect was said to have been issued quit notice in his former apartment by his landlord following the loss of his first wife in mysterious circumstances. Read more

Coalition of Elders for Peace and Good Governance in Bauchi state have appealed to citizens of the state to accept whatever the outcome of the Supreme Court’s verdict of the state’s March 9 governorship election in good faith. A statement signed by Sarkin Arewan Bauchi, Alhaji Hassan Sharif, and 20 others, and made available to newsmen in Bauchi on Sunday, said the appeal became imperative in view of the tensed atmosphere in the state as the judgement is about to be passed by the court. It noted that the state is known for peace and political tolerance since the Second Republic when losers went to court to seek redress, saying the courts’ decisions had never triggered violence or crisis in the state hence the need for the citizens to maintain the tempo. Garg of the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. “It differs from depression, which is characterised by low mood, guilt, and poor self-esteem. The results of our study further establish the harm that can be caused in people who suffer from exhaustion that goes unchecked.” Atrial fibrillation is the most common form of heart arrhythmia. Boyfriend kills 23-year-old Army recruit (Nation)

A fresh recruit into the Nigerian Army, Patience Amos Ya’u, has been found dead in the room of her boyfriend in Damilu, a community in Jimeta, Yola North local government area of Adamawa State.

The 23-year-old Amos is believed to have died following a scuffle between her and her boyfriend, Ali Muhammed Wakil, whose claim to being a military personnel is being doubted.

The Nation gathered on Sunday that although Patience might have died as far back as January 12, it was not known until several days later when smell from her decomposing body alerted neighbours.

Patience was newly recruited into the Nigerian Army with her peers already training at the Military Training Deport in Zaria two days after her death. Read more

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are to drop their HRH styles and become known as Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. Harry is following in the footsteps of his mother, who was stripped of her HRH title in 1996, becoming Diana, Princess of Wales following her divorce. But unlike Diana, although the Harry and Meghan will not use their HRHs, they will still retain them. The change will take effect in the spring when the couple will no longer be working royals. Libya’s warring rival factions are expected to join major powers in Germany in a renewed push to secure a ceasefire to halt the civil war.

The talks follow the collapse of an earlier truce amid recriminations.

The conflict pits powerful General Khalifa Haftar against the UN-backed government in the capital, Tripoli.

Two convicted terrorists have reportedly gone on to live next door to one another after being released from prison. Kazi Islam, 25, was jailed for plotting to kill soldiers in 2015, before being released from prison half way through his eight-year term. He then went on to become neighbours with his uncle Kazi Rahman, 43, who was sentenced to nine years behind bars in 2006, the Sun on Sunday reports. During his trial, it was said he had plotted to kill civilians and attempted to buy three Uzi submachine guns. Both men are among almost 500 terrorists released from prison during the last decade. SpaceX completes emergency crew capsule escape (BBC)

SpaceX has conducted a test of the abort manoeuvre it would use if one of its crew-carrying rockets ever developed a problem during flight.

The rehearsal at Kennedy Space Center saw a Falcon-9 vehicle’s ascent into the sky deliberately terminated just 80 seconds after lift-off.

The astronaut capsule on top fired its escape engines to carry the vessel clear of the “faulty” booster.

Parachutes brought the capsule to a safe splashdown some 30km off Florida. Read more

A disgraced former police officer who slept with a missing 17-year-old girl has been found guilty of gross misconduct. PC Andrew Brooks met the teenager at his local town centre in March 2018 before inviting her to go back to his house and have sex, a police panel heard. Later that day the girl, who can only be named as Miss X, was revealed to be just 17. In the days after, PC Brooks and Miss X continued texting and Brooks then realised she was a missing person.
