Police rescue 19 kidnapped passengers in Niger (Tribune)
Niger State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun, announced that 19 passengers who were abducted on November 2 along the Tegina-Zungeru road have been rescued.
When their bus was attacked, the passengers were in transit from Sokoto to Bayelsa. Following immediate response from a joint security team, 12 victims were initially freed, and the remaining seven were rescued unhurt later that evening.
The victims received medical attention and returned to Sokoto on November 3. Read more
EFCC arrests ex-Delta Gov Okowa for alleged fraud (Channels)
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested a former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, for alleged diversion of N1.3 trillion 13% derivation fund from the federation account between 2015 and 2023.
An EFCC source confirmed the former governor’s arrest to Channels Television on Monday.
Okowa was arrested on Monday, November 4, 2024, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, when he reported at the Port Harcourt Directorate of the EFCC on the invitation of investigators handling his matter. Read more
Teacher arraigned for alleged sexual assault of 6-year-old (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command on Monday arraigned a 25-year-old teacher, Omobolanle Micheal Olaniyi, at the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, presided over by Justice Ramon Oshodi, for alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old pupil.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspect who was arrested July 24, 2023, was being charged with indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault by penetration.
According to the prosecuting counsel, B. E. Okeowo, the offences contravene Sections 135 and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. Read more

The Lagos State House of Assembly has commended the chairman of Epe Local Government Area of the state, Princess Surah Animashaun for equitable distribution of developmental projects across the eight wards of the council in the last two-and-half years of her administration.
The Chairman, House Committee on Local Government Administration, Chieftain Affairs and Rural Development, Honourable Sanni Ganiu Babatunde Okanlawon made the commendation during the oversight function on activities of the local government areas in the state.
Okanlawon, representing Kosofe Constituency I, noted that the council chairman has done well in the area of sports, tourism, arts and culture, noting that the infrastructural facilities were not left out in her area of developmental strides. Read more

Following the outrage that trailed the arrest and arraignment of minors over the #EndBadGovernance protests held in several parts of the country in August, President Bola Tinubu has directed the immediate release of all the detainees.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Monday after the President swore in seven newly appointed ministers cleared by the Senate.
The minister said the President ordered the immediate release of the minors without prejudice to whatever legal processes that are ongoing. Read more

President Bola Tinubu has nominated a lawyer, Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi, as a Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), representing Ondo State.

The House of Representatives has commenced a two-week recess and will resume plenary November 19.
This was disclosed by the House’s Spokesperson, Akin Rotimi Jr, in a statement on Monday.

A record number of police officers have been sacked in England and Wales amid efforts to restore public faith in policing following a series of scandals.
