Police operatives from the Bode Thomas Division, Lagos, have rescued two individuals suspected of theft from a mob.

This was made known by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on his X handle on Wednesday.

He wrote, “While a passerby was making a phone call at about 11pm, five young men in a tricycle accosted her and robbed her of her expensive phone. Read more

Lagos police clamp down on phone thieves, 303 face trial (Punch)

No fewer than 303 criminal suspects arrested in multiple raids of dark spots in different parts of Lagos State will face trial, the Lagos State Police Command has said.

This comes as the command announced it has initiated a clampdown on suspected phone snatchers terrorising some parts of the state.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Monday, noted that the suspects were arrested over the weekend in an operation conducted by the Rapid Response Squad, Divisional Police Officers, and the Area Commanders of the Lagos police. Read more

Man bags life jail for raping neighbour’s 10-year-old daughter (Punch)

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court, on Monday, convicted and sentenced one Taiye Agboola to life imprisonment for defiling his neighbour’s 10-year-old daughter.

Justice Rahman Oshodi held that the convict’s admittance, the medical report, the testimony of the investigating police officer, and the testimony of the victim’s mother were consistent.

Oshodi said the medical examiner had in her evidence told the court that the victim informed her that the convict penetrated her vagina with his finger. Read more

Lagos court remands Emefiele to EFCC custody (Punch)

The Ikeja Special Offences Court on Monday remanded the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, to the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after he took his plea over alleged abuse of office and allocation of $4.5bn, N2.8bn.

Emefiele, who was earlier arraigned alongside his co-defendant, one Henry Isioma Omole, on fresh 26 counts before Justice Rahman Oshodi pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The charge was marked ID/23787c/2024 and dated April 3, 2024. Read more

Couple arrested in Lagos for allegedly producing fake alcoholic drinks (Nation)

Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, have arrested a couple for alleged production and distribution of various adulterated alcoholic beverages.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer (ZPRO), Umma Ayuba, a Superintendent of Police (SP) confirmed the arrest in a statement yesterday in Lagos.

She said the crackdown occurred on April 4, when a team of detectives from the Zone 2 Raider Section, led by Ngozi Braide, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) conducted a raid on a residence in Muibi Olawumi Close, Off Ayetoto/Itẹle Road, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Ogun State. Read more

Eid holiday stalls Bobrisky’s sentencing (Nation)

The Eid holiday yesterday stalled judgment by a Federal High Court Lagos against convicted cross dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, over naira abuse.

Bobrisky was prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for naira abuse.

The court had convicted him on April 5, following his guilty plea to a criminal charge brought against him by the commission. Read more

Police arrest 3 in raid of ‘‘kidnappers’’ hideout (Nation)

The police in Lagos State have confirmed the arrest of three suspected kidnappers in the Ijanikin area of the state.

Zonal Public Relations Officer, Umma Ayuba, in a statement yesterday, identified the suspects as Samuel Kwasi (64), Monday Unachukwu (24), and Freeman Ekpebo (23).

According to her, the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, raided the kidnappers’ hideout at the Ijanikin area, arrested the syndicate, and rescued two victims. Read more

Businesswoman arraigned over alleged N68m, $10k scam (Nation)

The Lagos State government has arraigned a businesswoman, Oluwatomilola Balogun, before the High Court at Tafawa Balewa Square, for allegedly obtaining N68.6 million and $10,000 from four different persons by false pretense.

Balogun was arraigned alongside two companies, Twelvest Ltd. and Vestract Ltd., before Justice Ibironke Harrison. 

She is standing trial on four counts bordering on obtaining under false pretences. Read more 

Maritime Police arrests 2 suspects for impersonation, extortion (Vanguard)

Operatives of the Maritime Police Command, Lagos, have arrested two members of staff of CMA-CGM Nigeria Limited for posing as its officers to allegedly extort unsuspecting members of the public at the nation’s ports.

The suspects: Merrs Gbenga Solomon, said to be the Customer Service Officer of CMA-CGM Nigeria Limited and Erhimu Igho, were alleged to have forged the Command’s official investigation documents allegedly used to  blackmail their victims.

The duo, according to the acting spokesman for the command, ASP Ehinmode Adewunmi, were arrested after a complaint was lodged at the Maritime Police Command headquarters that some containers were blocked with purported documents from the Command. Read more
