Cleric docked for allegedly defiling neighbour’s daughter (Guardian)
An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a clergyman, Israel Philip, in Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s daughter.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr P.E Nwaka, refused to listen to Philip’s plea and ordered him to be remanded in prison until Nov. 4 for an advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.
Phillip, 43, who resides at Block A, Flat 2, Alapere Housing Estate in Ketu, near Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Christopher John, told the court that the offence was committed between 2016 and 2017 at No. 16, Ayomide St., Ojota, Lagos. Read more
Police launch manhunt for Lagos chief’s killers (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the killers of a chief in the Igbeyinadun kingdom, Abule-Ado area of the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of the state, Muritala Jimoh.
Jimoh and seven other members of the community were allegedly attacked by suspected members of the Oodua People’s Congress and some hoodlums during a meeting in his office last Friday. Read more
Police arraign 2 fuel attendants for allegedly stealing N100m (Guardian)
The police on Friday arraigned two fuel attendants who allegedly stole N100 million from a fuel station in an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The police charged Emmanuel Shonubi, 28, and Taofeek Ayobami, 30, with two counts of conspiracy and theft.
They, however, pleaded not guilt.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Simon Uche, alleged that the defendants committed the offence between January and September, while working at Pendote Oil and Gas Station. Read more
Security guard docked for alleged theft (Vanguard)
A 36-year-old security guard, Isah Yusuf, was on Wednesday brought before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly breaking into a neighbor’s apartment and stealing properties worth N1.8 million. Yusuf, a resident of Yaba, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, breaking-in, and stealing. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Police prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at 1 a.m., on Sept. 20, at No 308, Borno way, Alagomeji in Yaba, Lagos. Read more

Alfa accused of leaking nude pictures of businesswoman, bags 2 years for N37.6m fraud
An Alfa (Islamic Cleric), Awojobi Ganiu, was on Thursday sentenced to two years in prison for defrauding a United States-based businesswoman, Mrs Oluwatoyin Akinwole of the sum of N37.6 million.
The Islamic cleric was convicted following a plea bargain agreement after being re-arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) before an Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos. Read more
Faith Academy teacher beats pupil to a pulp (Punch)
A Computer Science teacher at the Faith Academy, Ota, Ogun State, Voke Voma, has allegedly beaten a Senior Secondary School 2 pupil of the school, David Emekeme, to a pulp.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the teacher, who is also the school chaplain, allegedly beat David for walking slowly in the chapel. Read more
Street sweeper’s body recovered in Lagos Lagoon 3 days after she was knocked off Third Mainland Bridge (Guardian)
A street sweeper Folasade Ogunniyi was knocked into a lagoon in Lagos State while she was performing her duty.
Her corpse was discovered and recovered from the lagoon underneath the 3rd Mainland Bridge on Friday, August 23, three days after she was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
Until her death, the late sweeper, a mother of three, was under the employment of by Highway Managers, an environment sanitation firm working in collaboration with the Lagos State Government.
On the day of the accident, Ogunniyi left her house in Oworonsoki area of Lagos about 5:30 a.m to her duty post- the ever-busy 3rd Mainland Bridge to sweep, her husband Sunday Ogunniyi told The Guardian. Read more
