Police smash car snatching syndicates in Lagos (Guardian)

Police operatives attached to the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have arrested seven suspected members of a separate robbery gangs that have been terrorising Lagos State.

One of the syndicates specialized in car snatching within the South West region of the country, while the other specialized in house-to-house robbery within Orile-Agege area of the state.

Explaining how three suspected members of the car snatching syndicate were arrested, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Elkana Bala, said at about 4:30p.m. on April 15, police received an intelligence report of a notorious car snatcher operating within the southwest states.

“Immediately Supol Olatemiju Adebimpe led a team of police officers to Idimu, where they tracked and arrested 48-year-old Victor Umeh. One Toyota Camry car with plate number EKY784 DU was recovered from him. He confessed to have snatched the car from Imo State. According to him, he sold the vehicle and other cars snatched to a criminal receiver, Chidi Oledugbe at Orlu. Read more
