PoS operators accuse Lagos LCDA of imposing illegal levy

Some Point of Sale operators and mobile banking agents have accused the Agbado/Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area in Lagos State of imposing an illegal levy on them.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the LCDA had on July 8, 2020, passed a circular imposing a weekly levy of N600 on the operators.

In the circular, which was made available to our correspondent, it was observed that the LCDA had partnered one Trilling Volant Services to collect the levy on its behalf.

The circular read in part, “All PoS/lotto shop/kiosks around Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA are mandated to pay a sum of N600 only. It is a weekly fee from revenue generated; payments are to be made through Trilling Volant Services.

“Kindly note that failure to comply will bring our enforcement team to lock up your shop or remove your kiosk/banner and it will attract a fine of N5,000 before reopening.”

Some of the operators, who spoke with PUNCH Metro, urged the authorities to stop the collection of the levy, which they described as exploitative and an additional burden to bear.

One of the operators, Taiwo Olatunbosun, who noted that the levy was not approved, stated that it was an idea brought up to exploit the operators. (Punch)
