The presidential candidate of the Accord Party, Isaac Ositelu, on Monday promised to ensure self-sufficiency in food production if elected in the 2019 elections.
In a statement, Ositelu said he would turn Nigeria to the food basket of West Africa during his tenure as President.
He said apart from ensuring self-sufficiency for local consumption, the nation under his watch would also embark on export of food crops to countries in the sub-region.
He said, “Nigeria is blessed with very resourceful and enterprising population, excellent weather and expansive land good enough for large-scale food production.
“The nation’s tertiary institutions, particularly the universities of agriculture and the relevant stakeholders in the agricultural value chain as well as financial institutions would be networked to form a coalition of support system in the sector.” Read more
