Queen and Prince Philip celebrate 71st wedding anniversary (Metro)

The Queen and Prince Philip today celebrate the impressive landmark occasion of their 71st wedding anniversary.

The couple are expected to mark the rare event in a private and low-key fashion.

Their enduring relationship has lasted the longest of any British sovereign, and Philip has been at the Queen’s side throughout the decades, supporting her as she devotes herself to her role as head of state.

The monarch was just 21 when she married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten at Westminster Abbey on November 20, 1947.

And while the Duke of Edinburgh has now retired from public duties, the Queen continues to carry out official engagements – including one this morning at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors to mark its own 150th anniversary. Read more
