NBAWF condemns alleged killing of pregnant lawyer by husband (Punch)

The Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum has condemned the alleged killing of a lawyer, Adaeze Ikpeama, by her husband, Anthony.

It was gathered that the six-month pregnant Adaeze was allegedly beaten by her husband at their residence in Lagos on Saturday, which made her to become unconscious.

Our correspondent learnt that Adaeze was rushed to a hospital, where she was placed on oxygen.

The deceased’s colleague, Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, who chronicled the incodent on his Facebook page, alleged that Anthony went to the hospital to remove the oxygen mask, which led to Adaeze suffering cardiac arrest and her eventual death. Read more

5 nabbed for stealing iron rods from Lagos Chinese firm (Punch)

Policemen attached to the Area ‘E’ Command of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested five suspects for allegedly stealing iron rods from a Chinese firm, China Construction Engineering Company, in the Iba area of the state.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the suspects, while conveying the stolen items to a destination in the state, were accosted by policemen around 3am on Sunday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Tuesday that the suspects offered N500,000 bribe to the policemen, who rejected the offer, adding that the management of CCEC identified the stolen items to be the firm’s property after being contacted by the command.

Adejobi said, “Police operatives attached to the Area ‘E’ Command, Festac, Lagos State, on April 11, 2021, around 3am, accosted five suspects in a Ford bus with number plate, FST 679 XZ, with some 25mm iron rods, property of China Construction Engineering Company, between Volks bus stop and Iyana Iba, Lagos State. Robbers stab Canada-bound woman to death in Lagos (Nation)

A 41-year-old woman, Oluwakemi Odugbesan, has been murdered by suspected armed robbers around Oduntan in Ketu, Lagos.

The deceased was said to have been stabbed multiple times by her attackers around 6 am on April 10, which happened to be her husband’s birthday.

It was gathered the woman was returning from a vigil when her attackers, in an attempt to collect her phone and handbag, stabbed her multiple times on the chest and rib regions.

Sources said the deceased, her husband and three children were billed to relocate to Canada in few weeks before her unfortunate death.

Police arrest 5 in Lagos over alleged N500,000 bribe (Leadership)

The Area E Police Command, Festac in Lagos, has arrested five persons who allegedly stole construction materials and offered its personnel N500,000 bribe

The Spokesman for the Police Command in Lagos State, Mr Olumuyiwa Adejobi, a Chief Superintendent of Police, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday.

Adejobi said that the arrest was made on Sunday at about 3 a.m., when the suspects were accosted in a Ford Bus with Reg. No. FST 679 XZ, between Volkswagen Bus Stop and Iyana-Iba, on the Badagry Expressway, conveying some 25mm iron rods.

He said that the suspected stolen property belonged to the China Construction Engineering Company (CCEC). Read more

3 suspected kidnappers arrested on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway (Punch)

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three members of a kidnap syndicate, who have been terrorising commuters along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The suspects Nathaniel Jacob, 24, from Nasarawa State; Isah Danladi, 22, from Kogi State; and Abubakar Rabiu, 23, from Niger State; were arrested on Thursday, at Fidiwo area along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state , Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this on Monday in a statement.

Oyeyemi said the arrest of the suspects followed a tip-off from some hunters, who sighted the suspects in the bush where they were planning on how to strike along the expressway. Read more

2 arrested as man slumps, dies during argument in Lagos pub (Punch)

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspects for the alleged killing of one Osita Anwuanwu, 64, in the Arida area of Ikotun.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Sunday that the daughter of the deceased said he had an argument with the suspects and slumped in the process, adding that the suspects had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba, for further investigation.

Police checkpoints remain despite purported dismantling by CP (Guardian)

Despite the order by Lagos State police boss, Hakeem Odumosu, dismantling checkpoints on Badagri-Seme corridor, investigations at the weekend showed that roadblocks on that axis still remained unabated.

A resident of the area, who confided in The Guardian, noted that the directive was taken with a pinch of salt as roadblocks had since returned in the last 24 hours.

A check yesterday revealed that between Badagry Round-About to Seme, over 15 checkpoints were mounted by policemen.

“Between Okomaiko to Agbara, policemen flood the road with checkpoints from 6.30pm. It is usually done at nightfall. The commissioner of police just made a pronouncement without following it up with strict monitoring,” the source said. Read more

Mother of 3 slumps as POWA demolishes shops (Punch)

A mother of three, identified simply as Mama Esther, has been hospitalised after she slumped when her shop was demolished by officials of the Police Officers’ Wives Association.

It was gathered that POWA had given the tenants in its market at Pedro in the Somolu area of Lagos State a two-week notice to vacate the premises for demolition.

Our correspondent learnt that the demolition was to pave way for the construction of an ultra-modern market at the site by a developer.

Hoodlums take over LASU axis, attack, rob students at will (Punch)

The Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos, axis particularly areas along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway—close to the Iyana-Iba market—the Okokomaiko (PPL) area, and the university’s gate on the LASU-Igando road, are now a hotbed of violent crimes.

Clutching dangerous weapons such as guns and knives, hoodlums prey on unwitting passers-by in these areas—many of whom are students of the university, robbing them of money, belongings, and in some cases, inflicting bodily harm on them. An entrepreneur and 300-level student of Biology Education, Rukayat Balogun, suffered brutality at the hands of the criminal elements.

On June 24, 2019, Rukayat left her hostel at Idirogbo for CMS at about 5:30am to beat the rush hour. She planned to buy some goods for her customers being a retailer of male and female underwear.

She was with her smartphone and N70,000. As she trotted phone-in-hand along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, opposite the university road, she felt a sharp pang on her left hand which she later found suffered a deep cut. Her attacker held an “iron object” to scare her. Read more

NSCDC busts syndicates in Lagos, seizes 60,000 liters of PMS (Guardian)

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos Command has smashed a Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) syndicate at Baruwa town, Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

The command also arrested two members of the syndicate and detained a 60,000-litre truck laden with the commodity after overpowering the syndicate which attacked the NSCDC officials.

The NSCDC Lagos Commandant, Mr Paul Ayeni, addressing newsmen at the site of the bunkering said the command received the distress call at about 1:00 am on Saturday.

According to the Lagos NSCDC boss, the men of the command immediately swung into action to ensure the perpetrators do not go scot free and that the country’s critical infrastructure is protected. Read more

Man in EFCC net for allegedly diverting N800m bank loan (Punch)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one Adeleke Adeyemi for alleged conspiracy, issuance of dud cheques and diversion of N800m bank loan for personal use.

It was learnt that Adeyemi and his alleged accomplice, Odusanya Memphis (now at large) had in their capacities as directors at a company took N800m loan in 2011 from a commercial bank for the purchase of petroleum products.

It was also gathered that both Adeyemi and Memphis had upon the receipt of the loan diverted the funds for personal use and failed to pay back.

Adeyemi, in a statement by the Head, Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, was said to have failed to pay back the loan after allegedly presenting dud cheques of N50m. Read more

3 arrested for beating robber to death in Lagos (Punch)

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three community leaders in the Ikotun area of the state for lynching a suspected burglar.

The community leaders arrested include Sakariyau Biliaminu, m, 66; John Adeyemi, m, 77; and Gabriel Ajayi, m, 55, said Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi in a statement on Thursday.

The statement was titled, ‘Jungle Justice: Lagos Police Arrest 3 Community Leaders For Murder, Vow To Halt Jungle Justice’.

Lagos generator repairer hospitalised after attack by hoodlums (Punch)

A generator repairer, Segun Akinyemi, has been hospitalised following an attack on him by hoodlums around New Garage in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos State.

It was gathered that Segun and his customer were attacked by the hoodlums around 2pm on Sunday, April 4, 2021.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the hoodlums had been chased out of the community by the private security outfit hired by the residents.

Lagos car wash worker arrested with customer’s vehicle at Benin border (Punch)

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command, on Tuesday, arrested a Lagos-based car wash worker, Kazeem Olanrewaju, who allegedly absconded with a Toyota Venza car, at the Nigeria-Benin Republic border.

Olanrewaju allegedly ran way with the car with number plate APP 775 GB, which was given to him to wash in Lagos, but was apprehended at the Idi-Iroko border town.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested when the Divisional Police Officer, Idiroko Division, CSP Shadrach Oriloye, was on routine patrol with his men and sighted the car without a number plate.
