Sales rep arraigned for allegedly stealing 160 crates of beer (Punch)
A 33-year-old sales representative, Funmi Willoughby was on Wednesday docked in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 160 crates of beer worth N357,100.
The police charged Willoughby, whose address was not provided, with stealing.
The Prosecution Counsel, Clement Okuiomose, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between July and August, at the Green House, opposite Total filing station, Seme Border Area of Lagos.
Okuiomose said the defendant allegedly stole 160 crates of different brands of beer worth N357,100 by not giving a satisfactory account of the sales.
The beer, he said, belonged to Musa Ibrahim, the complainant. He said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Read more
Armed ‘protester’ arrested at Lekki Tollgate (DailyTrust)
A cutlass-wielding man has been arrested at Lekki tollgate in Lagos State.
Young persons marking the first anniversary of the EndSARS protests had converged on the tollgate on Wednesday despite warnings from the police.
The police had said they would not allow protesters to gather there so as to prevent hoodlums from hijacking their protests.
However, a procession of vehicles was allowed by the security operatives.
Hakeem Odumosu, Commissioner of Police in Lagos, had said approval was given for the procession to hold between 8am and 10am.
But a crowd gathered at the scene after 10am, wielding placards and chanting anti- government songs.Read more
LASTMA hunts driver who stripped naked, dragged official (Punch)
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has threatened to prosecute bus drivers and motorists who attack men of the agency in the line of duty.
The LASTMA General Manager, Bolaji Oreagba, stated this while reacting to a video clip showing a driver, who stripped naked to fight an official of the agency.
Oreagba, in a statement on Tuesday, said the incident happened on Friday, October 15, 2021, around 11.44am at Jakande First Gate on the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
He said the bus driver was caught dropping off and picking passengers on the road in contravention of the Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018 (as amended).
“The driver was asked to leave the spot, but was defiant and refused the entreaties of the officer deployed to correct him.
“The positioning of the vehicle was in such a way that it created avoidable traffic congestion. The driver’s resistance made the officer resolve to impound the vehicle by removing the ignition key. Read more
3 die, others injured as Lagos transport unions clash (Sun)
Three persons died while many others were injured during a battle of supremacy between members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Mile 2, Lagos.
The three dead persons were members of RTEAN, while the injured persons are from both sides. The dead were shot on Wednesday night by armed men suspected to be members of the NURTW.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has summoned the warring unions to an emergency meeting tomorrow.
The armed NURTW members were said to have invaded the RTEAN park at about 9.15pm, in an ongoing violent clash over toll collection from truck drivers, into the Apapa ports. Read more
LASPOTECH student killed at campus gate (Nation)
A National Diploma One student of Business Administration, Lagos State Polytechnic, Isolo campus, Akeju Tunde was shot dead yesterday in front of the school gate.
Tunde, who was shot in the ear, was said to be the only son and was on his way back to the campus from where he went to eat when he was pursued by some cultists who shot him before he could enter the school.
Other sources accused the security of collecting money from people before letting them in regardless of who they are. “The security is so terrible that if you give them money at the school entrance they will allow you in regardless of who you are, they go as far as telling you the amount they want. If they had allowed him in nothing would have happened.
“Immediately the guy was shot, those people left. The security officers did not do anything. It was the students who tried to rush him to hospital where he was confirmed dead”.
It was rumoured that the perpetrators were from Offa, Kwara State and that the deceased was to be initiated into a cult. The institution’s security men said they knew nothing about the killing. Read more
Fleeing Lagos task force officers shoot banker for protesting car damage (Punch)
A Branch Manager with Wema Bank, Bamidele Ajala, has been shot by personnel of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Enforcement Unit (task force) in the Oshodi area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the officers shot the 39-year-old in the hand while they were fleeing with a yet-to-be-identified LT commercial bus driver, who bashed his car.
Our correspondent learnt that the driver crashed into Ajala’s vehicle around Oshodi, inward the Airport Road last Tuesday.
After the crash, the banker said the driver claimed that he lost control of the vehicle when some area boys working with the task force officials dragged steering with him to force him to stop. Read more

Against the backdrop of public outcry about poor service delivery in some Passport Offices and the quest to deepen Passport reforms, the acting Comptroller General of Immigration, (Ag.CGI), Isah Jere Idris has uncovered how touts and some Immigration personnel swindle unsuspecting Nigerians who earnestly seek to acquire Passport.
The discovery was made during a recent unscheduled visit to the Alausa and Ikoyi Passport Offices in Lagos as part of sting operations to assess the quality of service delivery to the members of the public at the Centres.
According to Amos Okpu, Assistant Comptroller of Immigration Service and Public Relations Officer, in a statement, the acting Comptroller General arrived the Alausa Passport Office Ikeja at about 1100 hours and presented himself as a potential Passport applicant.

One year after #EndSARS, 300 protesters still in Kirikiri, says victim (Guardian)
One year after what victims described as genocide against #EndSARS protesters, 300 of them are still in Kirikiri Correctional centre in Lagos prison.
The victims were arrested on October 20, 2020, when soldiers stormed the Lekki toll gate in Lagos and allegedly shot at protesters, who had gathered that Tuesday, following a movement to end the excesses of the now disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), an armed of police formed in 1992 to combat armed robbery and other serious crimes.
Protesters and passerby were reportedly shot and killed by troops deployed by the Nigerian army, who had earlier denied involvement in the shooting, while manyt were arrested at random after the protest for arson, illegal gathering and armed robbery.
The movement started nationwide on Thursday, October 8, 2020, after weeks of outrage and anger with videos and pictures showing police brutality, harassment and extortion across the country. Read more
Nollywood actress accused of brutalising Lagos nanny over son’s treatment (Punch)
A nanny, Motunrayo Azeez, has accused a Nollywood actress, Wunmi Toriola, of brutalising her over allegations of drugging her son at their residence on Medina Estate in the Gbagada area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Toriola, who went to work on Friday, left her son in the care of Azeez.
Our correspondent gathered that the nanny went to pick the boy after school hours and took him home.
When they got home, Azeez claimed that she fed the child and took him outside the compound to play.
Shortly afterwards, the nanny said she discovered that the boy was running a temperature and she gave him some medication.
Matters took another turn when Toriola, who was monitoring the situation on a CCTV device connected to her mobile phone, became angry.
“She asked why I gave the baby drugs without her permission and I apologised for that, but she started accusing me of always drugging her son to make him sleep and I told her that yesterday (Friday) was the first time I would give him the drugs: Paracetamol and Vitamin C, with the cough drug she bought.
