A group of incensed Real Madrid supporters stayed behind at the Bernabeu to hurl abuse at Thibaut Courtois after they were dumped out of the Champions League by Ajax.
Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Ajax stunned Madrid as goals from Hakim Ziyech, David Neres and Dusan Tadic gave them the advantage before Marco Asensio pulled one back for Santiago Solari’s side.
However, Lasse Schone spectacular free-kick put Ajax out of sight with 18 minutes remaining and the Dutch outfit held on to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Courtois, who has had a disappointing debut season at Madrid, was widely criticised for his inability to deal with Schone’s looping strike which sealed Ajax’s 5-3 aggregate victory. Read more
