A 22-year-old apprentice, identified as Hakeem Mujib, was beaten to death by residents in Lagos Island on suspicion of being a spy to armed robbers.

The Guardian gathered that the deceased had gone to drop some clothes to a nearby tailor, and stopped at his colleague’s residence around 2.00am, to pass the night.

The colleague, identified as Kehinde, lives in a two-storey building housing his assailants.

Sources said while the Oyo State-born Mujib was knocking at the gate, occupants of the building accused him of being a spy, saying the person he mentioned as his friend does not live in the building. Read more

Noah Kekere, the doctor who allegedly removed a woman’s kidney in Jos, Plateau State capital, exhibited traces of mental disorder in the police cell on Saturday evening.

Kekere was arrested on Wednesday following a report lodged at the Nasarawa Gown police division on the removal of the right kidney of Mrs. Kehinde Kamal during an operation in 2018.

The state police command had earlier confirmed the arrest of the suspected harvester. Read more

Lagos police parades fake Commissioner, 12 others (Vanguard)

The Police Command in Lagos, says it has arrested an impersonator who has been parading himself before the public as a Police Commissioner.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Monday while briefing newsmen on the recent achievements recorded by the command.

According to him, the feat included the arrest of 12 others for various offences committed in the last two weeks. Read more

NDLEA intercepts meth consignments concealed in tomato pastes, clothes at Lagos airport (Tribune)

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted consignments of skunk concealed in tins of tomato paste and methamphetamine hidden in used clothes, meant for export to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.

While the skunk in tomato pastes consignment weighing 20.00 kilograms was intercepted on 8th September at the SAHCO export shed of the Lagos International Airport, the meth shipment with a gross weight of 1.60kg was seized at a courier company in Lagos.

An NDLEA statement on Sunday said, another consignment of 556 grams of Canadian Loud sent from Canada to one Tunji Adebayo in Ikorodu, Lagos was also intercepted by officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) attached to courier firms. Though Adebayo was not home when operatives visited his house at 52, Aina Atoloye Street, Ikorodu, he however directed his younger brother to sign for the package on his behalf. The brother was promptly arrested. Read more

No going back on fees increment, says UNILAG (Guardian)

As protests over increase in fees continue at the University of Lagos, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Folashade Ogunsola, has said there is no going back on the new fees introduced by the institution.

She, however, assured the student that none of them would be made to drop out over the increment, saying the university has mapped out plans to accommodate the indigent ones.

Speaking at a virtual press conference at the weekend, Ogunsola said the decision to increase fees was due to the harsh economic conditions and the inability of the school to meet with requirements of global and quality education. Read more

2 persons die in Lagos-Abeokuta expressway accident (Vanguard)

Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), on Sunday said, two persons lost their lives, while another one sustained injuries in an accident involving a Mazda bus and a Mazda car at Ayedere , on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway.

Spokesperson of Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi of TRACE, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

Akinbiyi said, the accident occured at 7:10am at Ayedere village in Ewekoro local government area of the state. Read more

FBI to Release 2,500 Documents on Tinubu October (ThisDay)

Nigerians may soon be treated to the true account of President Bola Tinubu’s sojourn in the United States, following decision by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to release information about him in its database.

The decision was borne out of the need to comply with a freedom of information request first filed last year by Nigerian journalists, David Hundeyin, in collaboration with some anti-corruption agencies in the US.

According to the Peoples Gazette, the secret service claimed to have over 2,500 documents relating to Tinubu in its database, which it planned to release in batches starting late October. Read more

World Rugby announces steps to ease fans’ stadium woes (ESPN)

World Rugby is to add extra volunteers at Stade de Marseille and promised better communication with supporters to avoid a repeat of Saturday’s scenes outside the venue when thousands of fans battled to gain entry ahead of England’s victory over Argentina.

Many supporters missed the start of the game due to delays at entry points and the same was true earlier in Bordeaux, with hundreds of Ireland fans still battling to get into the stadium as their game against Romania kicked off in 35-degree Celcius heat.

World Rugby did not address the chaos at that venue, but said in a statement on Sunday measures have been put in place to make access to Stade de Marseille easier for supporters. Read more
