The disproportionally high number of coronavirus cases among people from ethnic minority backgrounds will be formally reviewed, Downing Street has confirmed.
A spokesman for the Prime Minister said the investigation would be led by the NHS and Public Heath England. The Runnymede Trust, an independent race equality think-tank, has previously warned of the disastrous ramifications of the Covid-19 pandemic among black and minority ethnic (BAME) groups, suggesting it was very likely to be a combination of health, social, and economic imbalances in society.
BAME groups are among the poorest in the UK which places many at higher risk of severe illness, as well as experiencing harsher economic impacts from Government measures to slow the spread the virus, the Trust said. (Text and photo courtesy Metro)
