A stalwart of African Action Congress and member of the Take it Back Movement, Mr Elias Ozikpu, on Monday said the recent RevolutionNow march organised by the movement and some groups was not to force a takeover of government. Ozikpu made the clarification while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos. NAN reports that the RevolutionNow march organised by AAC presidential candidate and leader of the Take it Back Movement, Mr Omoyele Sowore along with some groups was disrupted nationwide by law enforcement agents on August 5. El Zakzaky set for India medical trip (Guardian)

Leader of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, Sheikh Ibrahim El Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, are set to depart the country for his medical treatment in India. The leader of the Shiites arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and will leave for New Delhi, India with a chartered flight. El Zakzaky was granted permission to go for treatment at an Indian Hospital by the Kaduna State High Court. Read more

Robbery: Police arrest over 100 suspects along Mile 2-Badagry Expressway (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command said that over 100 armed robbery suspects were arrested on the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway between January and August, 2019. Mr Mohammed Ali, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Lagos State Police Command, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos on Monday. The Osun State Government on Friday said it has done well even without having a full-fledged cabinet to pilot the affairs of the state. A Nigerian medical doctor Oluyinka Olutoye has been appointed as the Surgeon-In-Chief at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Ohio, United States. Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the largest and most comprehensive pediatric hospitals and research institutes in the United States. Olutoye, a medical degree graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, will also be appointed professor and the E. The Benue Police Command said on Monday that gunmen have kidnapped the Provost, College of Education, Katsina Ala, Mr Tsavwua Gborigyo. AAUA student’s rape: Ondo police to arraign soldier Wednesday (Punch)

The Ondo State Police Command on Monday said it would arraign a soldier who was allegedly involved in the rape of a student of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko. The suspect, Lance Corporal Sunday Adelola, allegedly raped the victim, a 300-level student of the Department of Religous and African Studies of the AAUA, at a military checkpoint along Ikare Akoko-Akungba Akoko road, two weeks ago. Following the alleged rape, it was gathered that Lance CorporalAdelola had been dismissed by the authorities of the Nigeria Army before he was handed over to the police for onward prosecution. Nursing mother dies assisting falling dad in Anambra (Nation)

A 21-year-old woman reportedly lost her life while attempting to save her father from a tree fall in Umungada village, Umuomaku in Orumba South local government area of Anambra state. The deceased, Chinwendu Ike, a nursing mother was crushed by the weight of her father, Mr. Samuel Ike while falling from a pear fruit tree. Ivorian singer DJ Arafat dies in road crash (Punch)

DJ Arafat, an Ivorian singer with a huge following in francophone Africa, has died after a road accident in Abidjan, the state broadcaster RTI said on Monday. “Death of artist DJ Arafat… today at 8 am as a result of a road accident overnight,” it tweeted. The suspect in an attempted terrorist attack at a mosque in Norway that left just one person with minor injuries appeared in court today with two black eyes. Philip Manshaus, 21, smirked at photographers as he was accused of killing his teenage stepsister before attempting to shoot worshippers at the Oslo mosque last Saturday. As well as the two black eyes, his face and neck were marked with visible deep scratches. It is not known how he received the injuries. Read more

A suspected teenage thief was mauled to death by three guard dogs while he trespassed in a fenced in backyard, it was claimed. The boy, named locally as Nelson Cabrera, 16, did not live at the home in Irving, Texas where the fatal attack occurred early Saturday morning, police say.
