Residents panic as robbers attack 10 Lagos homes in three days (Punch)
Residents of Ifelodun, Kuburatu-Agbede and other areas in the Ifako-Ijaiye Local Government Area of Lagos State have been living in fear after armed robbers invaded 10 houses and dispossessed occupants of their valuables.
PUNCH Metro gathered that no fewer than 15 armed robbers attacked the residents in their various homes around 1 am, snatched a car belonging to a resident, and shot three persons attempting to stop their operations.
The robbery operations were said to have been carried out within the space of three days.
Our correspondent learnt that the fear of the robbers returning for another attack had sent shivers down the spines of residents, who expressed concern about the activities of miscreants in the areas. Read more
Sexual Assault: Police grant actor, Baba Ijesha, bail (Leadership)
Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju Omiyinka, popularly known as Baba Ijesha who is being accused of alleged sexual assault, has been granted bail on health grounds.
Baba Ijesha had been in custody at the State CID, Panti, for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old-girl in the home of a popular comedienne, Princess.
However, the legal advice of the Lagos Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Ministry of Justice as well the industrial strike by the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), led to the clossure of courts and continued detention of the actor.
The release of Baba Ijesha on Monday afternoon came as a result of Magistrates going around police stations across Lagos State, listening to cases and giving hearing to those arrested. Read more
Police beef up security in Lagos, Ogun over rumoured IPOB militants’ attack (Punch)
The Lagos and Ogun state police commands have beefed up security in different parts of the states to avert any possible attack by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and its Eastern Security Network.
This followed a statement by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, during a security summit chaired by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, that the command was investigating threats by IPOB to attack soft targets in the state.
While reacting to the CP’s revelation, the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, had refuted the claim in a tweet.
The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, had also described the claim as a rumour aimed at causing division, crisis and conflict among Ndigbo and their host communities. Read more
Chelsea fan, two others die, many injured as hoodlums clash in Ikorodu (Vanguard)
A Chelsea fan popularly known as “Drogba” and two other residents of Igbo-Olomu, Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Lagos State, were reportedly shot dead while many others were injured, during a clash by some hoodlums this past weekend.
The cause of the incident could not be ascertained as some residents attributed it to cultism while others said it was hoodlums who went on a rampage in the area.
Eye witnesses’ account said the incident occurred at Agbaje bus stop, near Ogundele area on Saturday night but residents woke up on Sunday only to find out that three people have been shot dead.
An eyewitness, Nike Ogunbumi said the clash broke out near a herbs seller after the hoodlums got drunk. Read more
Prophet nabbed over defilement of church member’s daughter in Lagos (Punch)
The pastor of Fountain of Liberation Church, Prophet Wisdom Okoronkwo, has been arrested by men of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in the Ikotun area of the state.
PUNCH Metro gathered that the victim was living with the pastor on the instructions of her mother, who is a member of the church.
The pastor was said to have taken advantage of the situation to allegedly defile the victim.
The victim’s uncle, who identified himself simply as Philip, said after she informed him of the incident, he reported the case to a non-governmental organisation, the Esther Child Rights, in Ikotun. Read more
Baba Ijesha traumatised, weak, lean in detention – Lawyer (Nation)
Adesina Ogunlana, lawyer to embattled Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James Omiyinka popularly known as Baba Ijesha has explained that his client is traumatised, weak and growing lean in police detention.
In the letter obtained by The Nation to Lagos Police Commissioner, Ogunlana demanded his client should be released on bail.
He noted that Baba Ijesha’s colleague Yomi Fabiyi is ready to stand surety for him.
The Nation reports Baba Ijesha has been in police custody since his arrest in April for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old. Read more
Lagos PoS operator laments police extortion, suspected fraudster disappears from custody (Punch)
A mobile money agent, Elijah Fakoyin, has accused policemen attached to the Maroko and Ikeja divisions in Lagos State of allegedly releasing a yet-to-be-identified suspect allegedly involved in a scam around Ipodo in the Ikeja area of the state.
Fakoyin also accused one Inspector Monday attached to the Maroko Division of detaining him unjustly for a crime the suspect allegedly committed, adding that the sum of N80,000 was extorted from him before the police released him from detention.
PUNCH Metro gathered that sometime in April 2020, Fakoyin was attending to customers in his office in the Ipodo area of Ikeja when one Ahmed, a barman from the KO Gardens, informed him that two yet-to-be-identified men needed to withdraw N40,000 through his point of sale terminal.
One of the men was said to have requested Fakoyin’s account number, and after providing it, the 40-year-old received a credit alert of N40,000. Afterwards, he gave them N40,000 and the men left his office. Read more
Lagos police command rescues another abandoned baby (Punch)
Barely two months after an abandoned day-old newborn was rescued near a bush in the Oko-Oba area of Lagos, another baby abandoned around Orile bus stop has been found by the police.
The baby girl said to be about one-month-old was rescued around 8am on Friday by policemen attached to the Orile division and handed over to the Gender Unit of the state police command in Ikeja.
The spokesperson for the police, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Friday said some passersby who sighted the baby alerted the police. Read more
Fake EFCC operatives, police inspector nabbed in Lagos estate (Guardian)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday paraded two men alongside a “Mobile Police Inspector” accused of impersonating its operatives in Lagos and extorting members of the public.
The agency’s Zonal Head in Lagos, Ghali Mohammed Ahmed, who spoke in behalf of EFCC Chairman, AbdulRasheed Bawa said the two-man gang and the officer were arrested at New Horizon Estate, Lekki, Lagos on Wednesday, “in the middle of an illegal operation to ‘serve’ a purported court order on an unsuspecting victim.”
Ahmed said: “The trio, Pascal Ugwu Chijioke, Sodiq Ibrahim Adekunle and Edwin Bassey, the Police Inspector, had posed as bona fide operatives of the EFCC, and stormed the residence of their target with all the paraphernalia of typical EFCC raid – armed with security back-up, fake branded EFCC jackets and EFCC identity cards. Lagos driver absconds with boss car, arrested in Edo (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested one Ibeh Udoka for allegedly absconding with his boss’ Toyota Corolla car and attempted to flee with it to Imo State, where he intended to sell it.
The spokesman for the command, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Thursday, that Ibeh disappeared with the car on May 3, 2021, when his boss asked him to take it to the mechanic for repairs, but he allegedly headed for Imo State ostensibly to sell the car.
He was, however, nabbed in Benin City, Edo State, through the collaborative efforts of the Lagos and Edo police commands.
The statement read in part, “On May 4, 2021, around 1pm, one Mrs Ibironke Akinola came to the Idimu Police Division and reported that her driver, Ibeh Udoka, whom she handed over her Toyota Corolla car with number plate ABC 801 FU to deliver to her mechanic for repairs, was not seen and ever since, his mobile telephone had been switched off. Ogun businesswoman disappears on way to vigil in Lagos (Punch)
The family of a businesswoman, Sarah Dosekun, is in distress following her sudden disappearance while on her way to attend a vigil at the Celestial Church of Christ, Calvary Parish 1 in the Ogba area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Sarah boarded a bus from the Mowe area of Ogun State last Thursday to the Ogba area of Lagos.
Sarah’s daughter, Janet, said the family members lost communication with her mother when she got to Asese bus stop on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, adding that the 67-year-old had remained incommunicado since then.
Janet said, “She (Sarah) left home around 7.15pm for a church vigil. But while on her way, she called around 7.54pm to inform us that she had got to Asese bus stop. Since then, her number hasn’t connected. Read more
NDLEA arrests former Lagos council boss at Lagos airport (Vanguard)
National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos yesterday said it has arrested former Vice Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area, LCDA, Mr Asekun Kehinde Sakiru.
According to a statement released yesterday (Wednesday) by NDLEA’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, Asekuun is alleged to have been on the wanted list of the agency. He is alleged to have ” made his way to the agency’s blacklist following the recent arrest of some traffickers and drug seizures linked to him.”According to Babafemi, ” the long arm of the law caught up with the wanted baron at about 9.40 pm last Friday while trying to board a Virgin Atlantic airline flight to London, the United Kingdom at the Lagos airport.” Read more
