Sahara Energy Geneva praises  traders and shippers for role in Mercy Ships Cargo Day

Sahara Energy Geneva, a subsidiary of the Sahara Group, has lauded the unwavering commitment and contributions of energy traders and shippers in Geneva to Mercy Ships Cargo Day. This initiative plays a crucial role in providing access to quality healthcare and fostering sustainable development across Africa.

David Walker, Head of Chartering at Sahara Energy International Geneva and Chairman of the Mercy Ships Cargo Day Committee in Geneva, stated the significant impact that businesses worldwide can make by collaborating in fundraising efforts. These efforts aim to provide life-changing surgeries, medical training, and infrastructure enhancements to support local healthcare systems in Africa.

During his tenure, Walker intends to build upon current successes and explore new avenues for positive impact. He stated, “We believe this opportunity to contribute to the remarkable work Mercy Ships is treasured by the shipping and trading community here in Geneva. For Sahara Group, being part of Mercy Ships aligns perfectly with our commitment to Making a Difference, responsibly.”

Kola Motajo, Director of Sahara Group, applauded Walker’s appointment, underscoring the group’s dedication to transformative partnerships that create a better future for all. Motajo added that Sahara Energy Geneva is actively involved in projects promoting sustainability, including a 5-year tree planting initiative across several African countries to combat climate change and deforestation.

Sahara Energy Geneva has consistently supported the Mercy Ships Cargo Day initiative, which has been saving lives and bringing hope to beneficiaries since its inception in 2016. Over the past seven years, Mercy Ships Cargo Day has raised over 7 million USD.

Mercy Ships operates hospital ships providing free surgeries and healthcare services to underserved communities. Founded in 1978 by Don and Deyon Stephens, this faith-based organization has focused on partnering with African nations for the past three decades, delivering services valued at more than £1.3 billion.
