Sanwo-Olu inaugurates Oyingbo flyover

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially unveiled the Oyingbo Flyover, a remarkable engineering marvel that promises to enhance transportation, reduce traffic congestion and elevate the quality of life for Lagosians.

The inauguration of this key infrastructure comes just days after the commissioning of the Yaba Flyover, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving the state’s transport network.

According to a statement by Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary, the Oyingbo Flyover, a significant addition to the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Red Line, provides a vital transit link between Lagos Island and Mainland, bridging the gap between Ebute Metta and two separate arterial roads – Iddo and Costain. It promises to alleviate vehicular congestion, eliminate delays, and enhance commuter safety by preventing pedestrian and vehicular interference on rail tracks.

Speaking at the inauguration, Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized the project’s strategic importance and the deliberate effort to establish an integrated intermodal transport system. He highlighted that the flyover would not only ensure safe passage for commuters but also improve the flow of commerce, benefiting both residents and businesses.

The timing of the Oyingbo Flyover’s opening is particularly significant due to the maintenance work on the Third Mainland Bridge, which has led to the closure of Ebute Metta sections. The Oyingbo Flyover will serve as an alternative route for motorists traveling to Lagos Island.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also lauded the project for promoting local engineering expertise and enabling skill transfer. Engineering students from Lagos-based tertiary institutions were actively engaged during the construction, allowing them to learn and contribute to the development of the city.

Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who was present at the inauguration, commended Lagos for its transformative leadership, progressive reforms, and good governance. He emphasized the importance of visionary leadership and developmental initiatives, praising Lagos as a model for other states to follow.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, affirmed the government’s commitment to delivering an integrated transportation master plan, making Lagos a competitive city. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), commended Governor Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to the timely completion of the Red Line infrastructure.

Local leaders, including the Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, Hon. Omolola Essien, celebrated the event as a momentous occasion, describing the Oyingbo Flyover as a symbol of progress for the Lagos Mainland residents. She pledged to protect the bridge and prevent illegal trading activities underneath it.

In the wake of this inauguration, Lagos State has taken another significant step toward improved infrastructure and a seamless transportation network, setting an example for other states to emulate.
