Sanwo-Olu to host stakeholders at the LSSTF 13th town hall meeting (Nation)
OVER a thousand critical stakeholders, including corporate organisations and philanthropists, would on Tuesday grace the 13th edition of the Town Hall Meeting of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, (LSSTF) the fund’s Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Abdurrazaq Balogun has said.
Balogun while addressing a pre-event press conference at his Alausa, Ikeja office, said the event, will afford the Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu an opportunity to lay before corporate Nigerians who has been long time partner of the Fund his administration’s policies and programmes as it relates to security.
Also expected to brief members if the public is the new Commissioner of Police Hakeem Odumosu, who is expected to give a comprehensive report of the activities of the police under his command and the strategies for crime prevention in the state. Read more
27 ships with petroleum products expected at Lagos port – NPA (Vanguard)
Twenty-seven ships with petroleum products, food items and other goods are expected to arrive at the Lagos port complex between Nov. 27 and Christmas eve.
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) stated this in its publication, `Shipping Position’, a copy of which was made available to NAN in Lagos, on Friday.
NPA said that the ships contained petrol, frozen fish, bulk sugar, buck wheat, steel pipes and containers. Read more
NECO : Ogun cancels November sanitation exercise (Vanguard)
The Ogun State government has canceled the monthly sanitation exercise for November 2019, in the State. The government said it has also lifted the restriction of movement order.
This, the State government said would enable secondary school students across the state to take part in the on-going National Examination Council (NECO) examinations.
In a statement by Kunle Somorin, the Chief Press Secretary to the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun while giving the approval said the decision was arrived at after reviewing the challenges that the restriction of movement order would have on the Mathematics paper in the NECO exams scheduled for Saturday and which coincides with the timing of the monthly sanitation exercise. The Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, cannot stop the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating him.
Justice Binta Nyako made the declaration while delivering judgment yesterday in a suit Number: FHC/ABJ/CS/60/09 filed by El-Rufai, seeking the court’s determination whether, as the then minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), he had complied with the guidelines approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the sale of federal government houses between May 2005 and May 2007. 1.5 billion ‘bags for life’ add to growing plastic waste in the UK (CNN)
UK supermarkets are producing more plastic waste despite promises to cut down, new research suggests, as sales of ‘bags for life’ soar to 1.5 billion.
Retailers were responsible for more than 900,000 tons of plastic waste in 2018, according to a joint report from the Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) and Greenpeace released Thursday.
Seven of the 10 largest supermarket chains reported a higher plastic packaging tonnage in 2019 compared to last year, although exact figures for this year have not been released. Read more

Wild snow leopard’s vision restored after world-first cataract surgery (CNN)
A wild snow leopard found injured and unable to see has had its vision restored after Chinese veterinarians removed a cataract in what they say is a world-first surgical procedure.
Linghan, a snow leopard believed to be over 11 years old, went under the knife on November 26 in the city of Xining, in the northwestern province of Qinghai. It is the first time a snow leopard has had the procedure, according to Zhang Qi Xin, assistant director of Xining Zoo.
Cataracts cause the lens of the eye to becomes progressively opaque, resulting in blurred vision. Read more

One of the heroes who tackled a knife-wielding terrorist after several people were stabbed near London Bridge said he just did “what any Londoner would do”.
Thomas Gray, 24, was among a group of men who dragged the killer to the floor near Fishmongers’ Hall on Friday, after the terrorist left two dead and several injured.
The 24-year-old, who is a tour firm manager, said he stamped on the terrorist’s wrist to try to make him release one of two large knives he was carrying. Read more

Senior doctors in Zimbabwe’s public hospitals have downed tools in protest against deteriorating working conditions and the firing of over 435 junior medical officers by the government following a three months-long impasse over poor salaries, the doctor’s association said.
The Senior Hospital Doctors Association (SHDA), a group of doctors, including specialists who had remained on duty at the country’s hospitals, while junior doctors began a boycott in September for higher pay, announced the strike in a move that is set to worsen the country’s already dire health situation. Fifa announce plans to raise $1bn for Africa (BBC)
Football’s world governing body has announced plans to raise $1bn dollars to build at least one stadium meeting Fifa standards in each African country.
Fifa president Gianni Infantino was talking in Lubumbashi during the 80th anniversary celebrations of DR Congo side TP Mazembe.
He insisted that Fifa wants African football to shine and will work with the Confederation of African Football (Caf) and other stakeholders to improve refereeing, infrastructure and competitions on the continent. Read more

Fabinho: Injured Liverpool midfielder out until next year (BBC)
Liverpool midfielder Fabinho will be out until next year with the ankle injury he suffered against Napoli.
The Brazilian went off after 19 minutes of Wednesday’s Champions League group game, which the Reds drew 1-1, after he fell awkwardly making a challenge.

Adamawa United head coach, Mohammed Bello is optimistic that the team will return to winning ways after their 2-0 loss to eight-time Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Enyimba International in Aba on Matchday 5.
Bello spoke in an interview with NPFL.ng and insisted that despite the loss to Enyimba, his players showed resilience in the second half of that encounter.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah players attacked by armed-robbers (Nation)
Players of FC Ifeanyi Ubah were on Friday attacked by armed robbers while travelling to Kano to honour their match against Jigawa Golden Stars in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), scheduled for Sunday.
In a Facebook post signed by the management of the club side on Friday night, the Anambra Warriors ran into the robbers dressed in the uniforms of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at the Kabba junction, near Lokoja, Kogi state, at about 1:30 pm in the afternoon.
No life was lost in the incident, but some players got injured. Read more
