LAGOS State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday admonished victims of domestic, sexual violence and other related gender-based abuses not to be quiet but report perpetrators to relevant authorities for justice.

Sanwo-Olu gave the charge when he led his wife, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, executive council members and some Non-Governmental Organisations, NGOs, on a walk around Alausa, Ikeja.

Woman allegedly pours hot water on husband’s ex-wife (Punch)

A 41- year-old housewife, Janet Ojukwu, was on Tuesday arraigned in Lagos for allegedly pouring hot water on her husband’s ex-wife.

Janet, who resides at Makoko area of Yaba, Lagos, is facing a charge of assault occasioning harm before a Yaba Magistrates’ Court.

She, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Godwin Oriabure, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at 3p.m. on November 3, at No. 7, Imamehin St., Makoko, Yaba. Read more

Sanwo-Olu hails past heads of service, perm secs (Nation)

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has hailed former heads of service and permanent secretaries for contributing to the development of the public service, using their wealth of experience.

He said the public service had a reputation of being the most progressive public service in Nigeria and urged it not to relent in making the state a smart city by working in tandem with the present administration’s THEMES agenda.

Sanwo-Olu, who spoke on Tuesday in Alausa, Ikeja at the 6th Summit & Public Presentation of ‘5 Decades of Excellent Public Service in Lagos State: 1967 – 2017,’ said: “There is no gainsaying that the public service contributed immensely to the success Lagos State has achieved over the years. Public service translates government policies, laws and social services into daily work that keeps democracy going.” Read more

Lagos to register churches, mosques (Nation)

LAGOS state government is set to register all religious bodies in the state for ease of reference, communication purposes and to enable them to participate in government programmes and activities.

The government had an agreement with religious leaders on having a database of all churches and mosques located in the state at a stakeholders’ meeting with Nigeria Inter-Religious Council (NIREC), at Alausa, Ikeja yesterday.

The Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf allayed the fear of the religious leaders, assuring them that it was not for taxation purposes. Read more

LEADING Pension Fund Administrator, PFA, Trustfund Pensions Limited, has taken its leadership role in the pension industry to secondary school to among others, inculcate saving culture on students.

At the grand finale of the 2019 Trustfund Pensions Limited Essay Competition for Senior Secondary School Students in Government Schools, Abuja, in commemoration of the World Savings Day, WSD, celebrated globally on the 31stof October, Trustfund Pensions informed that there was no age restriction to savings.

In a remarks by the Managing Director\Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of the fund, Mrs Helen Da-Souza, represented by   Head Business Development and Marketing, Mrs. Eno Adetayo Olugbemi,,   explained  that in accordance with a directive from National Pension Commission, PenCom, for all PFAs to voluntarily participate in WSD, celebration, Trustfund Pensions Limited decided to organise this annual essay competition as a platform to introduce the savings culture to youth as part of the process of preparing them for their leadership roles in the future. National Assembly may pass 2020 budget next week (Punch)

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has said that both chambers of the National Assembly may pass the 2020 budget by next Wednesday.

Lawan, in a statement by his media office on Tuesday, stated this when a delegation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria paid a courtesy visit to his office at the National Assembly, Abuja.

He said the Senate and House Committees on Appropriation sought a one-week extension to enable them to conclude work on the report of the 2020 Appropriations Bill to be laid next Tuesday. Read more

Hate Speech: United Nations speaks on death penalty (Guardian)

The United Nations deputy secretary-general Amina J. Muhammed Tuesday said the UN does support not a death sentence as a penalty for persons found guilty of hate speech.

Muhammed, a former Nigerian minister, was in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city to meet President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We, of course, did not support the death penalty and I am also happy to see…that portion was taken out of the legislation that was being put forward,” Muhammed said.

The UN chief said hate speech is spiking all over the world and that combating it is a priority for the United Nations. Read more

Katie Price Declared Bankrupt After Spending £45 Million Fortune (Guardian)

British media personality and model Katie Price has been declared bankrupt.

The former glamour model who is in debt of £800,000 was declared bankrupt Tuesday during a hearing at the Insolvency and Companies Court in London after failing to follow through her payment plan of £12,000 a month for four years to her creditors.

Price who was once estimated to have been worth £45 million (N20,982,768,750), now faces losing her properties, which includes her £2million nine-bedroom home in West Sussex. Read more

Musk suggests Tesla has 200,000 orders for Cybertruck (Vanguard)

Tesla Inc Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk indicated in a tweet on Sunday that the electric carmaker received 200,000 orders for its electric pickup truck within three days of its launch.

Musk, who has been regularly tweeting about the Cybertruck’s features since its launch late Thursday, has also been updating his followers with the number of orders the company has received.

In an earlier tweet, Musk said the company had received 146,000 orders for Cybertruck and tweeted again on Sunday saying “200K” – an apparent reference to the number of orders. Read more

Congress has invited US President Donald Trump to its first impeachment hearing on 4 December.

Jerrold Nadler, the Democratic chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, said Mr Trump could either attend or “stop complaining about the process”.

If he does attend, the president would be able to question witnesses.
