President Muhammadu Buhari has warned Nigerian elites to stop misleading the people through their unguarded utterances. Buhari, who is the visitor to the University of Uyo, according to the News Agency of Nigeria, gave the warning at the 24th convocation ceremony of the institution on Saturday. The President, who was represented by the Director of Corporate Communications, National Universities Commission, Mr. Ibrahim Yakasai, said development and progress could not thrive in a hate-filled and divisive society. Stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State yesterday removed former Governor Ayo Fayose as the leader of the party in the state while affirming the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Biodun Olujimi, as PDP’s new leader in Ekiti State and Southwest region. The President-General of Nnewi Town Union (Nzuko Ora Nnewi), Sir Ugochukwu Udemezue, says the death of Debe Ojukwu, the first son of the late Dim Odumegwu Ojukwu, is a big loss to the community. He confirmed the death of Debe, the 60-year-old first son of the late Ikemba Nnewi, from Umudim. Cameroon opposition candidate Maurice Kamto has called for an independent recount of last month’s presidential poll, urging the international community to “assume its responsibilities.” Kamto, who according to official results, came second with 14.23 percent of the vote behind incumbent Paul Biya, posted the appeal online in a video late on Friday. A chemical that makes brain tumours glow pink could help surgeons to remove the cancer safely, a trial suggests. Scientists gave people with suspected glioma a drink containing 5-ALA, a substance known to accumulate in fast-growing cancer cells. The pink glow the chemical causes was found in people with the most aggressive cancers. Researchers hope it will make it easier for surgeons to distinguish between cancer cells and healthy brain tissue. Read more
