Security guard docked over alleged cable, aircondition pipe theft

The police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a security guard, Amos Suakor, alleged to have stolen property valued at N200,000 from a company.

Suakor, 26, appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court on charges of conspiracy and stealing.

The  defendant, who is a resident of Bariga, Lagos State, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge levelled against him.

According to the prosecutor, Insp Amos Bassey, the security guard committed the offences on April 24, at Pariview and Tonn Squad, Opposite Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Bassey said that the field supervisor in ARKSEGO Security Company reported that the defendant, who is their staff posted to Palmview Estate, stole some cable wire.

The prosecutor said that Suakor also allegedly stole aircondition pipe valued at N200,000 that was kept in his care, property of a client.

Bassey further added that the defendant absconded from his duty post after the alleged theft.

“The case was reported at a police station; the security company, from which the defendant came, was invited and with their help, the defendant was apprehended,” he said.

Bassey said that the offences committed  contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O Tanimola, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N80,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Tanimola adjourned the case until May 22, for mention. (NAN)
