Self acclaimed clearing agent docked for allegedly obtaining N2m on false pretence

A self acclaimed clearing agent, Ademola Adekoya, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court charged with  N2.05million fraud.

The defendant, 58,  who resides at No. 5 Aratumi St., LASU, Ojo, Lagos, is being prosecuted on charges of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretences and stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Racheal Williams, told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 15, 2022, at Tincan Island Port, Apapa, Lagos.

Williams said that the defendant allegedly obtained the sum of N2.05 million from one Akim Kareem on the pretext of assisting the latter to buy a Lexus FX 300, 2000 model at the port.

The prosecutor said that since then all efforts made by the complainant to get the vehicle or a refund of his money had failed.

The offences, the prosecutor said, contravened Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mr F. O Ameen, granted the defendant N500,000 bail and two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until May 30 for mention. (NAN)
