Senator tasks wealthy Nigerians on plight of IDPs (Nation)

The senator representing Sokoto East senatorial district, Senator Ibrahim Abdullahi Gobir, has appealed to wealthy Nigerians, corporate bodies and other public spirited individuals on the urgent need assist Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in various locations across the country.

Gobir, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, made the appeal while donating food items and relief materials to some IDPs in various communities within his senatorial district.

According to the lawmaker, assisting the needy in the various communities with gainful employment and provision of amenities could go a long way in reducing hunger and desperation that sometimes lead to crime in many communities.

Senator Gobir had, a few weeks ago, co-sponsored a motion on the floor of the Senate, calling on the federal and state governments to take decisive actions against armed banditry and kidnapping in Sokoto and Zamfara States. Read more
