Serena Williams’ longtime agent Jill Smoller believes that Serena Williams’ story goes beyond tennis. Smoller, speaking to the New York Times ahead of the Wimbledon final loss against Angelique Kerber, said: ‘She’s carrying a message and on a platform that is so much bigger than a tournament or a sport.
This is about people — male, female, black, white, rich, poor — that are on the floor and don’t know if they can get up and do anything, and it’s about nothing is impossible.’ That’s why Wimbledon was so special for Williams.
Smoller also added now the audience that follows Serena is bigger. ‘Of course. You have an icon, absolutely unarguably or arguably one of the greatest athletes of all time: male, female, black, white. You have a businesswoman.
