Shane Long reacts to scoring Premier League’s fastest ever goal for Southampton against Watford (Metro)

Shane Long joked Ralph Hasenhuttl instructed his players to get off to a quick start before the Southampton striker scored the fastest goal in Premier League history.

The Irishman took just 7.69 seconds to break the deadlock at Vicarage Road, charging down Craig Cathcart’s attempted clearance, racing through on goal and clipping the ball over Ben Foster.

Long’s effort eclipsed the previous record held by Ledley King since 2000 after he opened the scoring for Tottenham against Bradford in 9.82 seconds.
