Customer shoots man dead over Shawarma, flees (Punch)
A yet-to-be-identified suspect is on the run after allegedly shooting one Kayode Oloruntoba in the stomach at a food joint in the Alagbado area of Lagos State on Friday.
Efforts to save Oloruntoba by some good Samaritans, including his friend, Kazeem Okikiola, proved abortive, as he died.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Okikiola on Friday, September 11, went to Avid Bar at Alagbado to buy Shawarma and called Oloruntoba to join him.
While waiting for the Shawarma seller to attend to him, it was learnt that Okikiola got into an argument with another customer, who also wanted to buy the dish.
The argument, which centred on who should be served first, however, degenerated into an altercation and out of annoyance, the suspect left the spot, entered his car and drove away.
A few minutes later, Oloruntoba met Okikiola at the spot and while they waited for the Shawarma, the suspect reportedly returned, brought out a gun and shot in the direction of the two friends. Read more
Embattled woman appeals to IGP, others to investigate husband over alleged rape (Guardian)
A 24-year-old woman, Diana Faith, has called on the Lagos State Government, Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other relevant authorities to investigate her husband, Temidayo Lucky Kafaru, for an alleged case of sexual molestation of their five-month-old baby, among other offences.
Faith alleged that her estranged husband raped her maid who is a minor and also molested his baby by putting his manhood in the baby’s mouth.
“Since then, there have been constant threats to my life and that of my mother. I am calling on the Inspector General of Police to intervene in my case and not allow my life and that of my family to be wasted. He has refused to make himself available for investigation on allegations against him,” she said. Read more
Killing: Police arrest 6 suspects in Lagos (Vanguard)
The Police Command in Lagos State has arrested six suspects for questioning over the shooting and killing of one Kayode Olorunroba (m), 35, of No. 3, Werewere St., Alagbado in Lagos State.
The command’s spokesman, SP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Monday that Olorunroba was shot at AVID Sharwama Spot, Alagbado on Friday.
Adejobi said that the suspects had begun to give useful information that could assist the police in its investigation.

Command to charge 17 hoodlums terrorising Lagos community (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has said 17 hoodlums will be charged for allegedly terrorising and robbing residents of the Orile area of the state of their valuables.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said in a statement on Tuesday that the hoodlums were arrested while harassing and dispossessing members of the public of their belongings in different parts of Orile.
Adejobi stated, “In its bid to rid Lagos State of cultism, hooliganism and violent crimes, the Lagos State Police Command has intensified efforts to neutralise various groups of deadly armed hoodlums, cultists and miscreants, who are fond of causing pain and agony to innocent residents of the state.
“Premised on the Lagos State Police Command’s proactive measures to curbing crime, police operatives attached to the Orile Division of the command, on Monday, September 14, 2020, arrested 17 armed hoodlums, who were attacking, harassing and dispossessing members of the public of their belongings on Amosun, Zion, Mosalasi and Ikale streets in the Sari-Iganmu area of the state.

How we swap real phones with fake ones – suspects (Vanguard)
Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, of the Lagos State Police Command have smashed a syndicate that specialized in advertising telephones on an online marketplace- Jiji.com, only to exchange it with a fake one , while delivering them to customers in Lagos.
Arrested were two suspected members of the syndicate : Chukwu – Emeka Ogbona (45) and Olabode Kehinde (34), both mobile phone technicians at the Computer Village, Ikeja.
The suspects and other fleeing members of the gang as gathered, lure unsuspecting customers to Olowu Street and Computer Village, Ikeja, where they fraudulently collected money from the buyers after showing them the real phones.
But they would substitute the phone with a fake one while handing it over to customers, after which they would flee the scene. Read more
Lagos CP orders re-arrest of freed motorcyclist who hit pedestrian (Punch)
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has directed the Divisional Police Officer, Olosan Police Station, Mushin, to re-arrest a commercial motorcycle rider freed after knocking down an apprentice, Damilola Ogunsanya.
The okada rider was allegedly riding against traffic around Five Star bus stop on the morning of August 31 when he hit Ogunsanya, who was going to work together with a friend.
It was gathered that Ogunsanya’s friend and passersby held the rider and handed him over to the Olosan Police Station while the victim who sustained injuries was rushed to a hospital.
The teenager reportedly suffered a cut to his ear while his head was also affected by the impact of the crash.
However, there was uproar when the family of the victim learnt that the Investigating Police Officer, identified as A.O. Idowu, allegedly released the rider and his motorcycle.
An activist, Bishop Zheun, with the Twitter handle, @zheun85, who posted about the incident, berated the policeman for releasing the suspect while Ogunsanya was in a critical condition. Read more
Fears over failed monarch’s abduction for resisting land-grabbing (Punch)
Many households in Isiwu community, Ikorodu area of Lagos have yet to get over shock occasioned by shootings in the neighbourhood last Friday.
Commercial activities have also remained skeletal as locals fear a recurrence of the incident where many people sustained gunshot wounds and property destroyed.
Saturday PUNCH learnt that some hoodlums invaded the community on the morning of September 2 and opened fire at the palace of the newly installed Eweye of Isiwu, Oba Olukayode Balogun.
The thugs, allegedly acting on the orders of one Yinusa, reportedly attempted to kill Balogun who contested the throne with him.
It was gathered that lingering cases of land-grabbing in the community fuelled the violence which started brewing after Balogun was installed on August 24.
Our correspondent, who visited the community on Tuesday, saw one of the vandalised vehicles parked in front of the bullet-ridden palace.
A resident, Kareem Mabayomije, said he was shot in the leg while he and some youths were trying to shield the monarch from the attack reportedly led by one Supol. Read more
Robbery allegation: MKO Abiola’s sons spend nine days in detention (Punch)
Two children of the late MKO Abiola, Kassim and Aliyu, have spent nine days in the detention facility of the police Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Lagos over allegation of robbery.
Kassim and Aliyu were arrested in their father’s house at 42-46 MKO Abiola Crescent, Off Toyin Street, Ikeja, on September 2, following a robbery at the house in the wee hours of the same day.
The Abiola’s children have, however, sued the Commissioner of Police, demanding N100m in damages.
In the suit filed on their behalf by Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), before the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja, Kassim and Aliyu alleged that their arrest and detention were at the instance of their stepmother, Mrs Adebisi Abiola, who allegedly suspected them to have had a hand in the robbery attack. Police arrest 18 protesters, journalists in Lagos (Punch)
Men of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested 18 protesters, including four journalists, during a protest against the hike in the pump price of fuel and electricity tariff in the country.
The protesters, who gathered under the aegis of the Socialist Party of Nigeria, displayed placards demanding a reduction in the prices of goods and services.
The group was at the Ojuelegba area when they were intercepted by the police and arrested.
The youth leader of the SPN, Hassan Soweto, in a post on his Facebook page, said they were taken to the Area C Police Command.
He stated, “We have just been arrested alongside several other members of the Socialist Party of Nigeria and journalists for protesting against fuel price hike, electricity tariff and deregistration of SPN. A total of 18 arrested, including four journalists.” Read more
Police explain death of man in custody (Guardian)
Operatives of the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos, have given more insight into the circumstances that led to the death of a 32-year-old land agent, Yemi Taiwo, at Isiu, Ikorodu area of the state Tuesday before the last.
The police denied that the land agent was tortured to death, adding that the deceased was given necessary medical attention before he gave up the ghost.
At a briefing at his office in Onikan, Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Ahmed Iliyasu, said he was shocked with the report that Taiwo was murdered by the police, describing it as unfair.
The AIG, who was represented by the officer in charge of Zonal Monitoring Unit, SP Adams Uba, said over a period of time, reports reaching the AIG on the activities of cultists in the community were disturbing and the police were doing their best to curtail the activities of the hoodlums. Read more
Lady, 24, arraigned for false rape allegations against Twitter Influencer (Vanguard)
The police penultimate Wednesday arraigned 24-year-old Bola Aseyan before a Yaba Magistrate Court on a five-count charge bordering on a false accusation, criminal defamation of character and offensive publication likely to cause a \breach of the peace.
The arraignment followed a running battle of a series of accusations and counter-allegations made by the said Bola Aseyan, against the UK based medical doctor and Twitter influencer, Dr Olufunmilayo Ogusanya, who she had accused of rape on social media.
