Siblings arraigned for duping BDC operators (Punch)
The police on Tuesday arraigned two siblings, David Okwuanalu and Graham Mike Okwuanalu, for allegedly swindling two Bureau De Change operators out of a total of $50,000.
The Okwuanalus were arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos on four counts bordering on conspiracy and fraud.
The police prosecuting counsel from the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department, Alagbon, Henry Obiazi, told the court that the defendants, with some persons still at large, committed the offence between August and December 2016. Read more
Travel agent docked over alleged N1.4m visa scam (Vanguard)
A 37-year-old travel agent, Ibrahim Osuolale, who allegedly defrauded a client of N1.4million under false pretences of helping her to process seven visas on Wednesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court.
Osuolale of Olatunji Street, Medina Road, Igando Egan, Lagos, who was arraigned before Magistrate A. M. Olumide-Fusika on a two-count charge of fraud and theft, denied the charges.
The magistrate, however, granted the accused N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum. Read more
Police arrest kidnapper, rescue five-month-old baby (Punch)
The state Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, on Wednesday said the mother of the child, Shukurat Opeoluwadu, had gone to hawk local herbs on September 26, 2018, when the suspect allegedly took advantage of her absence and fled with the baby.
He added that after a distress call, operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit of the command were mobilised and they eventually arrested the suspect, while the baby was rescued. Read more
EFCC arraigns man for $149, 950 oil fraud (Leadership)
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Lagos Zonal office, has arraigned one Barnabas Johnson Akojie alongside his companies, Hanston Oil & Gas Limited and Bahanston Oil & Gas Limited, before Justice Olusola Williams of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos on an eight-count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence, forgery and fraudulent conversion to the tune of $149, 950.00.
EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said the defendant allegedly forged some documents and used his companies to obtain the money from one Etienne Irazoqui as cost of logistics for the supply of crude oil.
However, the complainant alleged that Akojie reneged on their agreement and converted the money to his personal use. Read more
Murder: Defendant sends text message to friend after husband’s death (Punch)
A friend to a lawyer who allegedly murdered her husband, Maureen Offor, on Wednesday told a Lagos State High Court in Igbosere about a text message that the lawyer, Udeme Otike-Odibi, sent to her on May 3 around 12.04am, which stated that she had done something terrible.
Forty-eight-year-old Udeme is standing trial for allegedly stabbing her husband, Symphorosa Otike-Odibi, to death at their residence on Diamond Estate, Sangotedo, Lagos State. Read more
Lawyer Otike-Odibi killed by wife found with genitals, intestines cut (Vanguard)
Symphorosa Otike-Odibi, the 50-year-old lawyer who was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife, Udeme, also a lawyer, was found on his matrimonial bed with his genitals and intestines cut off.
Two siblings of the lawyer and his friend gave the graphic details in testimonies before the court on Monday.
Udeme Otike-Odibi, a 48-year-old lawyer, was on June 13, arraigned by the Lagos State Government on a two-count charge of murder and misconduct with regard to a corpse before an Igbosere High Court in Lagos. Read more
8 YABATECH students docked over secret cult membership (Leadership)
Eight students of Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, were on Tuesday brought before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court over membership of an unlawful society called Eiye Confraternity. The accused are Lawal Ahmed, 23; Ogunyemi Oluwayosi, 19; Samuel Irikefe, 17; Godwin Etim, 23; and Abayomi Badmus, 24.
The others are Chiemeka Oluwaseyi, 21; Promise Agbogwu, 20; and Benedict Isichie, 18.
The accused, who were allegedly arrested with charms, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, belonging to a secret cult and stealing.
The men, according to Police Prosecutor Lucky Ihiehie, committed the offences on September 21 at 10pm at Yaba College of Technology. Read more
